Friday, November 4th, finds the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans playing the first of four scheduled contests this season. The Pelicans will host again on November 23rd while the Warriors will host on March 3rd and 28th.
The Warriors are completing a back-to-back set looking to end a four-game losing streak after losing 129-130 in Orlando. The Pelicans last played Wednesday losing 117-120 to the Lakers.
The Warriors hold the all-time record between the clubs with 43 wins in 67 meetings versus the Pelicans. Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests.
Golden State Warriors
Through the early season, there wasn’t much to be that concerned about because the Warriors are the defending champions and clearly they have copious amounts of championship DNA inside that locker room.
Even the majority of the youngsters now know what it takes to reach the apex of the season so when there were some early struggles no one really got too bent out of shape.
The club had seemed to navigate ‘the punch’ situation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole leading to everyone assuming things had just been forgiven and forgotten.
BUT… now with the Warriors losing four games in a row and having yet to register a win on the road the red flags have appeared and there is ample concerns with us asking – what’s wrong? And how serious is this?
Perhaps it’s a bit of an overreaction still given it was only a one-point loss — but — the loss still occurred with Steph scoring 39 points and dropping eight 3-pointers while Klay also dropped seven 3-pointers and scored 27.
Diving into the numbers we find the Warriors excelling on offense scoring 118.8 points per game which tops the league. They shoot 47.1% from the field (10th) and 35.7% from the perimeter (16th).
Defense is where the Dubs’ issues lie as they allow 122.2 points per game which is a league-worst mark. They allow opponents to shoot 47.3 percent from the field (22nd) and 35.4 percent from the perimeter (19th).
Andre Iguodala (hip) was downgraded to out Friday while Donte DiVincenzo (hamstring) is out indefinitely.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans are scoring 118.3 points per game which rank just behind the Warriors (2nd overall). They are shooting 48.5% from the field which ranks third overall and a robust 39% from the perimeter ranking fourth.
Defensively, the Pelicans allow 112.6 points per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field both ranking 15th and they possess the best perimeter defense holding opponents to 31.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Brandon Ingram (concussion protocols) and Herb Jones (knee) were upgraded to probable. E.J. Liddell (knee) was downgraded to out on Friday. Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season.
