Sunday, November 17 finds Western Conference rivals the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans facing each other in their second meeting of the 2019-20 season. Both clubs began the 2019-20 campaign with dreams of playoff berths but injuries quickly shifted the situation and now they are sitting in the cellar in the Western Conference looking like they’ve already cemented a lottery trip.
Last season, the Warriors swept the three-game series and won the initial meeting between the clubs this season 134-123. The Warriors hold the all-time record having bested the Pelicans in 38 of their 58 matches.
Golden State Warriors
D’Angelo Russell posted 12 points, seven assists and two rebounds in 25:06 prior to injuring his thumb. Although the Warriors are devastated by injury they undermanned group pushed the Celtics and almost stole the match eventually succumbing 105-100.

Alec Burks led the way scoring 20 points. Eric Paschall added 16 and eight rebounds while Draymond Green posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
To say the Warriors are limping into this match is the greatest understatement of their season. Of the eight players on the injury list Eric Paschall (hand injury) is the only player who is probable to play in this match.
D’Angelo Russell joined the walking wounded when he sprained his thumb and is expected to miss two weeks. Damion Lee (fourth metacarpal fracture) is out for at least a month.
Stephen Curry is also hampered by a hand injury having fractured the second metacarpal on his left hand and will miss three months recovering.
Jacob Evans (groin) and Kevon Looney (neuropathy) are expected to be out until the end of the month. Alen Smailagic is out indefinitely with a sprained right ankle. And Klay Thompson will miss the season recovering from his torn ACL.
New Orleans Pelicans
In spite of the Pelicans record, Brandon Ingram is having a resurgence season leading the team in scoring with 25.9 points per game. Similarly, Jrue Holiday remains one of the best two-way players in the NBA while leading the Pelicans in assists (6.9) and steals (2.3).

The Pelicans enter the match having played a back-to-back with a 109-94 loss to the Heat on Saturday. Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the team with 27 points.
Four others hit double figures including E’Twaun Moore (18), Jrue Holiday (14), Jaxson Hayes (12), and Nicolo Melli (10).
Like the Warriors, the Pelicans injury list is expansive with seven players questionable to play Sunday. They include Frank Jackson (neck contusion), and Derrick Favors (back spasms) who were injured in the Heat match.
JJ Redick (big toe sprain) missed the last game, Jahlil Okafor (left ankle sprain) missed the last two games as has Josh Hart (left knee and ankle sprain).
Brandon Ingram has missed the past three games with a sore right knee while Lonzo Ball (groin) has missed the last four. Zion Williamson is projected to return mid-December and Darius Miller (Achilles) is out for the season.
