Tuesday, November 1st, finds the Golden State Warriors facing the Miami Heat for the second and final time this season. Golden State won the initial meeting 123-110.
Golden State last played Sunday losing 114-128 to the Pistons and are 0-2 on their current road trip. The Heat finished their three-game road trip losing 113-119 to the Kings.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Warriors winning both contests. The Warriors have won 35 of the 67 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Golden State Warriors
Although the Warriors aren’t going to over react this isn’t how they wanted to start the season. The concern isn’t so much the 3-4 record but who they’re losing to.
The Nuggets and Suns were explainable losses but losing consecutive games to the Hornets and Pistons to start their five-game road trip was far from what they envisioned heading out on this trip.
The Warriors defensive struggles show up via the 122.0 points per 100 possessions they allow their opponents to shoot which ranks at the bottom of the ladder as they supplanted the Nets who previously held that spot.
Moreover, opponents are shooting a highly efficient 46.8 percent from the field (tied 19th). The Dubs are slightly more proficient at defending the perimeter with rivals shooting 34.0 percent (11th).
Offense isn’t the main issue for the Warriors as they hold the top spot scoring 118.7 points per 100 possessions tied with the Suns for first. However, their efficiency pinpoints some issues as they rank 18th on field goal efficiency shooting 46.5%.
Another troubling issue is how the club is performing from the perimeter where they typically are the club setting the standard but the team is shooting 34.3% from deep which ranks 21st.
Donte DiVincenzo (hamstring) and Andre Iguodala (hip) are out.
Miami Heat
Like the Warriors the Heat aren’t happy with their start to the 2022-23 campaign or their 2-5 record. In contrast to Golden State though the Heat have had a hellish schedule to begin the season with primarily playoff-bound clubs.
While the Heat lost PJ Tucker and are navigating some injuries even with the majority of the core healthy they’re struggling on both sides of the hardwood.
The defensive end of the court is where the Heat typically excel and while they rank 11th allowing 110.6 points per 100 possessions the concern is how well their opponents are shooting – -46.5 percent from the field (17th) and 39.0 percent from the perimeter (26th).
Offensively, Miami scores 108 points per 100 possessions ranking 27th while their efficiency is also troublesome — as they shoot 44.9% from the field ranking 25th and 34.8% which ranks 18th.
Dewayne Dedmon (illness) is questionable for Tuesday. Omer Yurtseven (ankle) is expected back early this month. Victor Oladipo (knee) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 6-0-1 in Warriors last 7 overall.
- Heat are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Over is 5-0 in Warriors last 5 games following a ATS loss.
- Heat are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 home games.
- Warriors are 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Miami
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Both teams enter this match feeling like this is a must win situation to get their seasons back on track. Golden State wants to avoid an 0-3 start to the road trip while the Heat want to avoid the trap game most teams fall victim to when returning from the opposite coast.
The odds makers are equally uncertain about this duel giving the Dubs just a slight edge to win.
Although the Heat are typically a strong home team I think the championship DNA will prevail and the Warriors squeak out a win.
