Game one of the Western Conference semi-finals between the third-seeded Golden State Warriors and second-seeded Memphis Grizzlies tips off on Sunday, May 1st.
The Warriors took care of the Denver Nuggets in a gentleman’s sweep while the Grizzlies battled the Minnesota Timberwolves taking six games to clinch and enter Round 2 with the least rest of all the teams.
Memphis will host Game 1 today, Game 2, Tuesday, May 3rd, *Game 5, Wednesday, May 11th, and *Game 7, Monday, May 16th while Golden State will host Game 3, Saturday, May 7th, Game 4, Monday, May 9th, and *Game 6, Friday, May 13th (*if necessary).
The Grizzlies won the 2021-22 season series 3-1 with victories on October 28th (104-101 in overtime), January 11th (116-108), and March 28th (123-95) while Golden State won the December 23rd match (113-104).
Notably, the Warriors were never at full strength in any of the meetings with Klay Thompson missing three games, Draymond Green missing two while Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole each missed one meeting.
The Warriors hold the all-time advantage having won 51 times of the club’s 91 regular-season meetings.
This is the second time the clubs are playing in the postseason with Golden State having won 4-2 in the 2015 semi-finals, ironically the same season they one their first of three titles in four years.
Golden State Warriors
With many of the front runners tapped as title favorites, the Warriors who began the season strong then trailed off due to injuries arrive at the second round as arguably the best bet to come out of the Western Conference.
The trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are all healthy while the sudden ascent of Jordan Poole presents a harrowing offense for any team to deal with.
Curry averaged 28 points 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals while shooting 40.4 percent from distance on 9.4 attempts and got to the charity stripe 7.8 times in the first round.
In the five-year period between 2015 and 2019 when the Warriors won three titles, the Splash Brothers Curry and Thompson ruled while Kevin Durant made them even more lethal.
Yet it was their defense led by Green and the sheer two-way dominance of the small ball Death Lineup that set them apart.
A new iteration of that lineup has emerged with the ascent of Poole and should get extra run in this series without a big like Nikola Jokic to deal with.
Andre Iguodala (neck) will be re-evaluated mid-week. James Wiseman (knee) is out.
Memphis Grizzlies
In the three games, Morant played versus the Warriors he averaged 26.6 points, 6.3 assists, 5 rebounds, and got to the line 8 times.
Morant had his moments in the first round and perhaps wasn’t as dominant as expected but in fairness had missed 11 of the final 13 games and did up his regular-season totals in all the key categories.
In the six games versus the Wolves, he averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 10.5 assists, and 1.5 steals but shot an abysmal 20% from deep
Although this is a young club with limited postseason experience they play to their identity and are fearless. Still, they found themselves trailing by double-digits in five of the six matches versus the Wolves.
Propelling their success was the newfound fourth quarter and clutch time supremacy often utilizing their own small-ball lineup featuring the addition of Brandon Clarke.
Ziaire Williams (knee), Steven Adams (health and safety), and Santi Aldama (knee) are questionable for Sunday. Killian Tillie (knee) is out.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
While these teams are vastly different in terms of their experience and structure they also have numerous similarities.
Superstars Curry and Morant are both capable of taking over a game to propel their squad to victory and each is returning from a long injury absence at season end.
Klay Thompson and Desmond Bane are the secondary scoring options with both lethal from the deep. Draymond Green was on his way to winning Defensive Player of the Year prior to injury while Jaren Jackson Jr. was the most glaring omission from the top three candidates.
Jordan Poole and Brandon Clarke represent their squad’s potential x-factor as each was directly responsible for shifting the momentum of games that resulted in victories in the first round.
And finally, Steve Kerr may have more experience but Taylor Jenkins is quickly becoming one of the most respected coaches in the association based on how he has this young team accepting their roles and playing to their identity.
Expect some exciting finishes in this series with the Grizzlies ranking first (33.0) in scoring and limiting opponent scoring (22.7) in the final frame while the Warriors ranked right behind scoring 30.6 points in the fourth quarter.
