With the Los Angeles Lakers back at Crypto.com Arena they used the home court advantage to take a 2-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors with a 127-97 rout in Game 3. The teams will tip off at 10:00 PM in Game 4 on Monday.
At this time, the Warriors are 43-48-1 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 14-32 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Lakers are 46-44-2 against the spread this season. Also, they are 25-20-1 ATS as the home team
The Lakers won the season series 3-1 with victories on February 11th (109-103), 23rd (124-111), and March 5th (113-105) while the Warriors took the initial meeting on October 18th (123-109).
Overall, last season, the squads played four times with the Warriors winning three of the four contests. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 261 of their 434 matches.
This is the seventh time the teams are meeting in the postseason with LA holding the 6-1 advantage although they haven’t faced each other since 1991.
Golden State Warriors
Early on in Game 3 the Warriors built an 11-point lead and it appeared they would roll to another victory but suddenly they stopped defending the same or moving the ball and the match quickly shifted in favor of the Lakers.
Steve Kerr may be forced to change the starting rotation again (see below) as the JaMychal Green experiment wasn’t as successful in Game 3 with the forward scoring just two points shooting 1 of 5 and 0 of 3 from deep in his 11 minutes while picking up two quick fouls.
Comparatively, Golden State averages 118.9 points per game ranking second overall while shooting 47.9% from the field and 38.5% from deep ranking 12th and second respectively.
Warriors opponents score 117.6 points ranking 21st with them shooting 47.1% from the field and 36.6% from deep ranking ninth and 18th respectively.
To summarize the injury report…
- Andre Iguodala, SF (OUT indefinitely —wrist)
- Ryan Rollins, SG (OUT indefinitely—foot)
Los Angeles Lakers
Once the Lakers got back to driving the ball and seeking fouls they were able to get to the line which is the formula that has worked in the two wins. LA’s 37 to 17 free throw disparity was a major advantage while they forced 19 turnovers leading to 27 points.
Those two areas were the difference in the match along with Anthony Davis playing aggressive offense as he’s repeatedly done in even-numbered games. Davis registered a double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds plus three assists, three steals, and four blocks.
The trick will be whether AD brings the same effort on Monday given his penchant has been to not be as aggressive in even-numbered matches.
On the negative side, LA allows opponents to score an average of 116.6 points per game ranking 20th. Their opponents shoot 46.9% from the field and 34.4% from behind the arc ranking 10th and second respectively.
Another key point is the Lakers score 117.2 points per game which rank sixth-best while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from the perimeter ranking 10th and 25th respectively.
To summarize the injury report…
- Mo Bamba (questionable—ankle)

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
The main adjustment from LA that was most evident was Darvin Ham moved Vanderbilt off Curry onto Draymond Green and Reaves as the primary on Steph. AD played more of a rover (although his primary initial assignment was JaMychal).
That tweak allowed LA to offset the Draymond-Steph action and meant JaMychal had to be more involved which clearly wasn’t ideal.
Undoubtedly, Kerr will make adjustments with the starting rotation likely being where he starts.
His options are returning to Looney, going small with Poole who is having a rough series and isn’t a great defender or perhaps going with a wild card like Jonathan Kuminga for his size and defense although that’s a bit risky given his inexperience.
Kerr also needs to examine the film to determine how they scored 44 points in the paint to the Lakers’ 46 but got 20 fewer free throws which either means they aren’t creating contact or are fouling while LA isn’t.
It’s a must-win for the Dubs so I’ll roll with the trend of AD being less aggressive, the refs being more even with the whistle, and the series being knotted at two-all as the teams head back to the Bay.
