The semi-finals series between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers shifts venues with the next two games at Crypto.com arena and the teams knotted at a win each.
Golden State won Game 2 via an offensive outburst of 127-100 and a perimeter shooting display as Stephen Curry played more of a distributor role and Anthony Davis failed to replicate his dominant Game 1 performance.
At this time, the Warriors are 43-47-1 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 14-31 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Lakers are 45-44-2 against the spread this season. Also, they are 24-20-1 ATS as the home team
The Lakers won the season series 3-1 with victories on February 11th (109-103), 23rd (124-111), and March 5th (113-105) while the Warriors took the initial meeting on October 18th (123-109).
Overall, last season, the squads played four times with the Warriors winning three of the four contests. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 261 of their 434 matches.
This is the seventh time the teams are meeting in the postseason with LA holding the 6-1 advantage although they haven’t faced each other since 1991.
Golden State Warriors
The big change for the Warriors in Game 2 was the insertion of JaMychal Green to replace the ailing Kevon Looney in the starting rotation. Steve Kerr said the decision was solely based on Looney’s illness but it felt like more of a chess move by the Dubs.
Green is capable of shooting at all three levels and his presence spaces the court with four shooters all capable of connecting from deep. Klay Thompson led the charge with 30 points while Curry opted to distribute collecting 12 assists and 20 points.
Two things to keep an eye on moving forward are Andrew Wiggins has struggled offensively in this series while Jordan Poole must be giving Kerr heartburn over his terrible decision-making and bad defense.
Comparatively, Golden State averages 118.9 points per game ranking second overall while shooting 47.9% from the field and 38.5% from deep ranking 12th and second respectively.
Warriors opponents score 117.6 points ranking 21st with them shooting 47.1% from the field and 36.6% from deep ranking ninth and 18th respectively.
To summarize the injury report…
- Andre Iguodala, SF (OUT til late April —wrist)
- Ryan Rollins, SG (OUT indefinitely—foot)
- Patrick Baldwin Jr. SF (doubtful—toe)
Los Angeles Lakers
As this series hits Game 3, I’ll acknowledge the Lakers are a tougher matchup for the Warriors than I initially expected. My uncertainty had nothing to do with LeBron James who continues to consistently produce.
Rather it was the uncertainty of Anthony Davis with Game 1 and 2 offering the evidence for my lack of trust. AD was masterful in Game 1 (the best player on the court) collecting 30 points, 23 rebounds, and 5 blocks while getting to the line eight times.
In contrast, his Game 2 output was 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks with ONE free throw. Post-game he said he ‘had the same shots they just didn’t go in’ fell flat because it’s obvious he wasn’t as invested in the second match.
On the negative side, LA allows opponents to score an average of 116.6 points per game ranking 20th. Their opponents shoot 46.9% from the field and 34.4% from behind the arc ranking 10th and second respectively.
Another key point is the Lakers score 117.2 points per game which rank sixth-best while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from the perimeter ranking 10th and 25th respectively.
To summarize the injury report…
- Mo Bamba (questionable—ankle)

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
As the series hits LA there are a couple of interesting questions to consider. For the Lakers is it as simple as AD showing up for four games or was Draymond Green’s defense the difference?
I suspect the answer lies somewhere in the middle although I also expect AD will try to string two consecutive efforts together in LA hoping to give his club the edge in the series.
For the Warriors, will Kerr continue to ride with (JaMychal) Green in the starting rotation and what adjustments will he make to free up more Curry shots?
Since LA got the split, and with two examples to review I’m thinking this series is more likely to go the distance. With that and given Davis’ propensity, to have stronger performances in odd-numbered games I’ll take the Lakers to cover.
