The Warriors and Rockets have been the Western Conference’s chief two rivals over the last few seasons but that relationship has fizzled fast.
Golden State no longer looks like even a playoff team this year. The new-look Rockets, however, are cutting their teeth in hopes of finishing a run all the way to the Finals this time around.
Golden State Warriors
Forget the fact that Kevin Durant is no longer in a Warriors’ uniform; there is no Klay Thompson; there is no Stephen Curry; there is no Draymond Green; heck, there is no D’Angelo Russell; and, for good measure, Kevon Looney is out too.
Green has a finger issue that will likely cost him this game. Russell has a sprained ankle and I’m not sure if he’ll play or not. Looney is out with neuropathy. Oh, and Jacob Evans will miss the next couple weeks too.
That leaves Golden State with Ky Bowman and Jordan Poole in the backcourt. Bowman is a two-way rookie out of Boston College.
Glenn Robinson III is the only Warrior to have started to have started all seven of the team’s games this season. He’s up front with Willie Cauley-Stein and Eric Paschall.
So, yea, times are tough in San Francisco. And they got that way rather quickly.
This is a homecoming for the Rockets, which split four games on its first extended road trip of the year. The Rockets beat Washington and Memphis and lost to Brooklyn and Miami.
The loss to the Heat was particularly painful, a 29-point thrashing at American Airlines Arena. Russell Westbrook finished -46 and barely had a single-double; he finished 3/11 for ten points, six assists, and four rebounds.
Duncan Robinson, formerly of the Governor’s Academy in Byfield, MA. dropped twenty-three points in the blowout.
Monday in Memphis was Houston’s first cover of the season and it got it by the hook, a seven-point win as a 6.5-point favorite.
The Rockets will have to cover as big favorites on Wednesday night but any margin feels within reach, given who the Warriors are trotting out there.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction: Golden State keeps it close enough.
It might feel like everybody is gone for the Warriors but one key man remains and that’s Steve Kerr.
This is a heck of a spot he’s found himself in but if you believe in patience and virtue winning out here, make a bet on the Warriors, who will play hard and play right. They may not have even close to the talent that the Rockets do, but the Warriors will have the advantage of a huge number at their backs and a steady head coach who will give his best effort.
