Thursday, April 21st finds the series between the Golden State Warriors playing the Denver Nuggets shifting to the road where they’ll play the next two matches.
Golden State took care of business at home winning 123-107 in Game 1, and 126-106 in Game 2.
Denver won the season series 3-1 with victories on December 28th ( 89-86), February 16th (117-116), and March 7th (131-124) while Golden State won 117-116 on February 26th.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests. The Nuggets have won 99 of the 183 matches played versus the Warriors all-time.
Golden State Warriors
It’s only been two games but the Warriors sure look like the team that started the season as opposed to the one that struggled in the middle of the schedule when they were dealing with first Draymond Green out numerous games then Stephen Curry.
In hindsight, and depending on how far they get into the playoffs those long absences may have been precisely what propelled this team ahead.
First, both Green and Curry are used to Steve Kerr’s schemes, but perhaps, more importantly, are the two players who can adapt the best and fastest to alterations or with new players on a unit.
That’s partially due to them being primary playmakers, during their tenure with the Dubs but primarily because of their high I.Q.
Second, it allowed for players like Jordan Poole to grow within the system and his role while also getting time to build chemistry with Klay Thompson.
In fact, Poole in particular has played so well it’s meant Steph Curry has continued to come in off the bench and it’s paying dividends as Poole and Curry scored 29 and 34 respectively in Game 2.
Poole even looks like Klay and Steph at times based on his shot mechanics or pulling up from the logo. Not to mention, it sort of feels like this trio of Steph, Klay, and Jordan was fated as the two Splash Brothers join the Poole party.
Andre Iguodala (neck) was upgraded to probable for Thursday. James Wiseman (knee) is out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
While Nikola Jokic was able to keep the Nuggets in the mix throughout the course of the regular season the playoffs are a different beast altogether.
Opponents create specific defensive assignments to take away the strengths of the opposition and in the case of the Nuggets isolate almost everything they plan on Nikola Jokic.
Making matters even more complicated for Denver is Jokic is both their primary scorer and primary playmaker. So Golden State can decide to limit his scoring forcing the Nuggets “others” to score.
Or they can defend him with single coverage and focus on limiting his passing lanes and ability to create for others – essentially saying – we’ll let you get yours, but no one else is scoring.
If that sounds far-fetched it’s not -he’s produced the highest scores in both games but more concerning for Denver is who’ll help with the scoring.
Jokic and Will Barton scored 25 and 24 respectively in Game 1, with two others scoring 10, and in Game 2, Jokic again was the top scorer (26) with a quartet scoring 12 – 10 points each.
Suffice to say the value of Jamal Murray has never been more obvious.
Austin Rivers (back) is probable for Thursday. Murray (ACL) and Michael Porter Jr (back) are out indefinitely.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
While the Dubs are clicking on all cylinders and are likely to win one of the two games in Denver, this first game back could also go the Nuggets’ way with fans emboldening them.
I’m sort of anticipating a gentleman’s sweep so leaning toward this being that single win for Denver.
