Monday, March 7th finds the Golden State Warriors playing the Denver Nuggets for the third of four scheduled matches this season. The teams have split the prior meetings with Denver winning 89-86 on December 28th and Golden State winning 117-116 on February 26th.
Denver will host the Dubs twice this week with a game in between for each team and the next game on Thursday, March 10th.
The Nuggets are playing a back-to-back set featuring the Pelicans in a match they won 138-130 in overtime on Sunday while the Warriors continue to stumble out of the All-Star break losing 116-124 to the Lakers on Saturday.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests. The Nuggets have won 99 of the 183 matches played versus the Warriors all-time.
Golden State Warriors
When you can’t beat the Lakers and hit four losses in a row it might be time to take a closer look at what the specific issues are. That loss was particularly harsh because it allowed the Grizzlies to surge past the Dubs.
Albeit it was a short-lived celebration for Memphis who lost Sunday and are back in third — for now.
Instead of taking advantage of the top-seeded Suns missing both Chris Paul and Devin Booker, the Dubs now have to worry about dropping even further down the ladder with the Jazz and Mavs sitting 2.5 and four games back of them.
While that might seem like fairly large padding it was barely a week ago that the Grizzlies trailed Golden State by that margin!
In the loss to the Lakers, Stephen Curry led the way with 30 points and four rebounds while Jordan Poole offered 23 points and five assists off the bench. Jonathan Kuminga (18), Andrew Wiggins (14), and Otto Porter Jr. (10) were the other double-digit contributors.
However, the offense wasn’t the issue – once again the Warriors had issues stopping their opponent from scoring and while LeBron James put up 56 points other Lakers scored easily and that’s not been the case recently.
They’ll need to dig deep on Monday as it seems like this is a scheduled loss with Steve Kerr giving the trio of Curry, Klay Thompson, and Wiggins the game off to rest. I wonder if this is a sign that Draymond will return this week and he wants them all sharp or is simply due to fatigue.
Andre Iguodala (back) and Gary Payton II (knee) were also downgraded to out Monday. Draymond Green (calf/back) and James Wiseman (knee) are out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
Playing a back-to-back set the Nuggets faced the red hot Pelicans on Sunday. Jokic was back from sitting out a game due to illness.
The match featured wild fluctuations with Denver taking the early 16 point lead in the first, losing the second and third frames by 11 and 16 points then roaring back in the fourth to outscore the Pels 40-30 and force overtime where they finished the job via a 14-6 frame.
Jokic posted a triple-double of 46 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, plus three steals, and four blocks. Aaron Gordon offered 28 points with eight rebounds, two assists, a steal, and two blocks.
Monte Morris and Bones Hyland were the other double-figure contributors with 18 and 11 points respectively.
Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), Jamal Murry (ACL), and Michael Porter Jr. (back) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head matches
- The Warriors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 3-7 in the team’s last 10 head-to-head matchups.
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
Clearly, the Warriors need to get Draymond Green back and until they do perhaps Steve Kerr has the right idea — make sure his stars aren’t overly taxed by fatigue and get everyone healthy to the postseason.
They’ve got some padding over the teams below them although you have to believe they preferred to be in the higher seed. This next four-game stint is the hardest of the remaining games.
Of the final 14 games, nine are against sub .500 teams – the perfect fodder to build momentum and tweak defensive schemes.
That said, given who is out it’s impossible to expect the depleted Dubs to win his match however the 9.5 spread might be a tad too large given how hard Denver had to work to win on Sunday.
