Friday, March 25th, finds the Golden State Warriors facing the Atlanta Hawks for the second and final time this season. The Warriors won the initial meeting 127-113 on November 8th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the shorthanded Warriors beating the Heat 118-104 while the Hawks got routed 101-122 by the Pistons.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Hawks sweeping the regular-season series. The Warriors hold the all-time record having bested the Hawks in 150 of their 295 matches.
Golden State Warriors
After Draymond Green called out his team for being soft and playing stupid they responded in a big way. Most expected the game in Miami to be a scheduled loss since Green, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Otto Porter Jr. were all out.
Instead, the young Warriors stepped up and easily defeated the Heat who are reeling a bit having lost two consecutive winnable games.
Carrying the majority of the offensive load Jordan Poole stepped up scoring 30 points and adding nine assists. The trio of Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Damion Lee each scored 22 points.
Gary Payton II was the other double-figure scorer with 11 points while Kevon Looney was huge on the glass pulling down 16 rebounds including three offensive boards.
Six of the Warriors’ final nine games are on the road. With the vets on this squad, I imagine they’ll use these road games to get the team aligned off the court and on the same page regarding the schemes.
Andre Iguodala (back) is questionable for Friday. James Wiseman (knee) and Stephen Curry (foot) are out indefinitely.
Atlanta Hawks
Of their final nine games, Atlanta will play five games on the road. Their opponents feature elite teams (Warriors, Heat) and some lottery-bound clubs (Pacers, Thunder, Wizards).
But the trio of matches against teams currently seeded in the play-in (Nets, Raptors) or trying to avoid it (Cavaliers) are arguably the most important games they’ll play down the stretch.
Those matches will likely determine where the Hawks are positioned to finish the season.
Lou Williams (personal), Danilo Gallinari (Achilles), and Skylar Mays (illness) are all questionable for Friday versus the Warriors. John Collins (foot) remains out with no definitive return date.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Golden State is 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Atlanta is 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Golden State’s last 8 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Atlanta’s last 5 games.
- The Warriors are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog.
- The Hawks are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite.
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
The Dubs trail the Grizzlies by two games and are up three on the Jazz. While they could rise or drop it seems likely they’ll finish with the third seed so the main issue is getting this team all on the same page and building momentum heading into the postseason.
Atlanta isn’t doing themselves any favors dropping games they should win like the recent losses to the Pelicans and blow-out at the hands of the Pistons. Seeded 10th a game back of Charlotte, time is running out and they still need to fix issues plaguing them (um — defense).
Frankly, I’m shocked the Hawks are favored over the Dubs (even without Steph). The fact the others responded to Green’s comments and will now have him, Klay, and OPJ back in lineup (and rested) I think gives them the edge over the Hawks.
