The Pistons should be a sitting duck for the Kings in this game because they’re playing in Los Angeles on Wednesday night before hitting the road for the short trip and another game the very next day.
Detroit is having a hard enough time defeating teams from the Eastern Conference; it has lost to Orlando and Indiana in its last two against the East. It’s having a hard enough time winning games at home; it has lost its last two in Michigan to Utah and San Antonio.
So I would be surprised if the Pistons win more than one of their next four games, all on the road against Western Conference opponents.
Then again, the Pistons always seem to surprise me and reel off a couple of fairly meaningless wins right when I think I have them figured out.
The Pistons have some of the worst 3-point shooting numbers in the league, including the #28 percentage in the league (33 percent). Somehow, though, they also defend the 3-point line better than any team in the league. No team holds opponents to fewer makes or attempts from three. The opponent percentage is also the lowest in the entire NBA.
The Kings were the Suns’ tenth win on Tuesday night, falling in Phoenix, 115–111. Sacramento shot 15-for-29 from 3-point range but turned it over an astounding 25 times against the porous Suns’ defense.
DeAaron Fox scored 24 points but committed eight of the turnovers. Former Kansas standout Ben McLemore hit season-highs in just about everything in his sixteenth game played of the season with twenty points, three rebounds and three assists.
The loss was Sacramento’s fifth in six games and has it under .500 for the first time since November 29, when it fell to 10–11 after a loss to the Clippers.
Iman Shumpert didn’t play because of a finger injury that isn’t considered serious beyond the next couple days. The Kings could have used Shump, even if he isn’t putting up the grandest numbers this season. He brings stability on both ends of the floor and allows Bogdan Bogdanovich to play off the bench with the second unit.
The good news is that Marvin Bagley is back. He didn’t play in the Suns game after logging twenty minutes against the Magic in the game before — Sacramento’s only win in the last six games. He should suit up for this one.
