Free Detroit Pistons vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Prediction:
Sunday, February 23rd, finds Detroit Pistons facing the Portland Trail Blazers in the clubs’ first meeting this season.
Last season, the teams played twice and split the contests. The Blazers holds the all-time record having bested the Pistons in 63 of their 118 matches
Detroit Pistons
It’s rebuilding time in Detroit as they continued to jettison players to other teams via the buyout market. They released Reggie Jackson who was signed by the Clippers and Markieff Morris who the Lakers will sign.
Their efforts will now likely focus on trying to subtly lose games in a tank effort to garner a higher draft pick this summer. Losses in 11 of their last 13 games will help with this objective.

The Pistons’ first game back from the break featured a 126-106 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Today’s match versus the Blazers is the first of four games on the road.
In the loss to Milwaukee, two Pistons delivered double-doubles including Christian Wood (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Bruce Brown (16 points, 10 rebounds).
The quartet of Derrick Rose (12), Langston Galloway (12), Thon Maker (11), and Tony Snell (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
On the season Derrick Rose leads in points (18.2) and assists (5.8). Christian Wood leads three categories including rebounds (5.7), blocks (0.8) and field goal percentage (56.5%) while Bruce Brown is the steals leader (1.2).
Khyri Thomas (foot surgery – fifth metatarsal) is out Sunday. Luke Kennard (bilateral knee soreness) are out indefinitely while Blake Griffin (arthroscopic knee surgery) has been shut down for the season.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers are missing their superstar Damian Lillard who injured his groin in the loss to Memphis and will miss at least a few more games.
In his absence, Portland needs someone to step up so they don’t fall too far off the pace of catching the eighth seeded Grizzlies who they currently trail by 3.5 games.
They’ve lost three in a row including the first game back from the break to the New Orleans Pelicans who are another team coveting that eighth seed.
In the loss to the Pelicans, Dame’s backcourt partner CJ McCollum led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 10 assists while Hassan Whiteside also delivered a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.
The trio of Carmelo Anthony (20), Gary Trent Jr. (15) and Trevor Ariza (13) were the other double-digit contributors.
Two starters lead all the stat categories and with Damian Lillard topping scoring (29.5 points), assists (7.9) and steals (1.0). Hassan Whiteside tops rebounds (14.0), field goal percentage (61.1%), and blocks (3.1).
Lillard is expecting to remain out at least until March with the groin injury. Mario Hezonja (ankle) missed the last three games and won’t suit up on Sunday.
Jusuf Nurkic (leg) remains out until indefinitely but hopes are for a March return. Zach Collins (shoulder) also won’t return until March.
Rodney Hood (Achilles) will miss the remainder of the season.
