Saturday, March 19th the Detroit Pistons face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fourth and final time this season. Detroit leads the series 2-1 with wins January 30th, (115-105) and February 24th (106-103) while Cleveland won the November 12th (98-78) meeting.
The Cavaliers are playing a back-to-back set having beat the Nuggets 119-116 in overtime on Friday while the Pistons played on Thursday beating the Magic 134-120.
All-time the Pistons have the advantage of winning 132 of 228 matches versus the Cavaliers. Last season the teams played three times with the Raptors winning two of the three contests.
Detroit Pistons
As the only game on the NBA schedule Thursday, Saddiq Bey decided to put on a show scoring 51 points plus nine rebounds, and three steals. With neither Cade Cunningham or Jerami Grant available Bey accepted the challenge to carry his team’s offense.
Isaiah Stewart posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Marvin Bagley III got the nod to start and delivered a double-double as well with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The duo of Cory Joseph and Saben Lee scored 13 and 12 points respectively as the other double-figure contributors.
Detroit lost the opening quarter but won the other three for the easy win. With the victory, the Pistons now have two extra wins over the Rockets and one over the Magic who sit beneath them in the standings.
The Pistons have one less win and two extra losses than the Thunder who rank 27th and are trying to drop into that coveted bottom three slot in order to have better odds in the NBA Draft lottery.
Cade Cunningham (illness) and Jerami Grant (knee) were upgraded to probable, Hamidou Diallo (finger) and Chris Smith (knee) were downgraded to out while and Killian Hayes (head) is questionable for Saturday. Frank Jackson (back) is out indefinitely.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have been reeling of late losing nine of their last 13 and things were looking bleak on Friday as they trailed the Nuggets by double-digits and the Raptors who were tied with them in the standings were leading the Lakers.
In a matter of minutes though the Basketball Gods intervened with the Cavaliers coming back to take the lead, eventually heading to overtime where they prevailed.
Meanwhile, the Lakers were down three with approximately 10 seconds remaining but Russell Westbrook stole the ball and hit a hail Mary 3-pointer to send the game into overtime where they won.
The resulting effect is the Cavaliers pull back ahead of the Raptors by a point and own the tiebreak so essentially by two games.
A season-high 31 points coupled with 10 rebounds by Lauri Markkanen offered the lift Cleveland needed. Darius Garland (25 points, 14 assists) and Evan Mobley (27 points, 11 rebounds) also collected double-doubles.
Rajon Rondo (toe) and Dean Wade (knee) are questionable for Saturday. Jarrett Allen (finger) is out indefinitely while Collin Sexton (knee) is out for the season.

Free Detroit Pistons vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction
Theoretically, this should be an easy victory for the Cavaliers but they are playing the second game in as many nights and had to play into overtime while the Pistons have been off since Thursday and should be getting their two leading offensive players back for this match.
Detroit has played Cleveland tough this year with the 2-1 edge in the series so if they play with the same intensity they’ve shown previously they could steal this one. Either way, I like the Pistons to keep it closer than the 7.5 spread.
