Wednesday, November 27, finds the Detroit Pistons taking on the Charlotte Hornets in the first of a home and home series. This is the second meeting between the clubs this season with the Hornets winning the first game 109-106
Last season, the teams played four times with the Hornets sweeping the contests. The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Hornets in 58 of their 112 matches.
Detroit Pistons
Following a five-game losing streak the Pistons enter this game having won two of their last three matches. Head Coach Dwane Casey is trying to get his club to perform consistently on both sides of the hardwood.

That job was made easier by the return of Blake Griffin although the brain trust will exercise caution (read: load management) as they bring their star back slowly from a summer knee surgery and subsequent hamstring tweak.
Griffin quickly vaulted to the top of the team leaderboard where he produces the most points per game (19.0). Andre Drummond has a trio of top spots with boards (16.8), steals (1.6) and blocks (1.8) while Derrick Rose captains the dime dishing (5.2).
In the win over the Magic, Luke Kennard led the team with 20 points while Griffin chipped in with 17. The trio of Langston Galloway, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Christian Wood each scored 12 points – and Bruce Brown added 13.
As for injuries Tony Snell is questionable for Wednesday having missed the previous four games with a hip flexor strain. Khyri Thomas won’t be back until laste December while he heals from surgery to repair his fifth metatarsal bone in his foot.
Reggie Jackson is expected back early in the New Year as he allows a stress reaction in his lumbar spine to heal.
Charlotte Hornets
The last time the Hornets celebrated it was when they won back-to-back games via 3-point buzzer-beaters at the horn. That featured Malik Monk hitting the shot versus the Pistons and Devonte’ Graham followed suit the next night in New York.

Charlotte hasn’t won since going on a five-game losing streak. The most recent loss occurred versus the Miami Heat who crushed them 117-100.
In the loss vs. Miami, Terry Rozier topped the scoreboard with 19 points. Devonte Graham (16), Malik Monk (13), Bismack Biyombo (11) and Cody Zeller (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Devonte’ Graham leads the team in scoring (18.1 points) and assists (7.1) while Cody Zeller tops the team rebounding (8.1) and field goal percentage (51.7) categories. PJ Washington leads the team in steals (1.2) and Miles Bridges (0.8) for blocks.
In terms of injuries, Malik Monk has a sprained pinky finger but is listed as probable as is Cody Zeller who left the Heat game with a hip contusion.

As it is if you leave out Rozier and add the other four starters’ salaries it’s less than Nic Batum will make this season. The irony of these youngsters being their future and also their most economical contracts point to how far gone this team was and why the rebuild was necessary.
