After winning a wild game one things have not gone Denver’s way. They need to turn things around quickly because home court or not getting down three games to one is not where you want to be.
Denver Nuggets
That first game was a wild one. Donovan Mitchell went off but the Nuggets overcame and won in overtime. Since then the results have been bad and then worse as Denver has gotten blown out. Gary Harrs and Will Barton have missed the series thus far and they are not expected back for this one.
Nikola Jokic is being productive but not dominant. Sometimes it is because Rudy Gobert is getting in his way and sometimes it is the fact that the players around him are not stepping up their games. At times it looks like not all the pieces fit.
If Jamal Murray wants to be a star the next step is consistency. He scored 36 points in game one but has just 26 in the two games combined since. The talent is there but he seems to drift in a way that the great players never do. The coach has to figure out how to keep him engaged.
Michael Porter Jr. has all the talent in the world but it too soon for him to be the third leg for Denver. When he is there he will probably be better than Murray and Jokic.
Utah Jazz
The Jazz figured it out that Mitchell cannot win games all on his own, even though he did a pretty great attempt at that in game one with 57 points. Even though he scored just 47 the next two games combined the Jazz won with ease. How about that.
Mike Conley Jr. rejoined the club for game three and led the team with 27 points. It was pretty impressive given he has been away from the club and had not played in more than a week. It wasn’t due to injury but it takes a pretty special guy to be able to jump right in like that in the playoffs.
Rudy Gobert continues to put up great numbers and has gotten better as the series has progressed. He is not going to put up 45 points in the next game but him impact has been huge.
