Wednesday, March 9th, finds the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings playing for the fourth and final time this season. The Kings swept Denver last season the Nuggets look to return the favor up 3-0 to date with wins on January 7th (121-111), February 24th (128-110), and 26th (115-110).
Both teams last played Monday, with the Nuggets defeating the severely shorthanded Warriors 131-124 while the Kings lost 115-131 to the Knicks.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Kings sweeping the regular-season series. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Kings in 98 of their 191 matches.
Denver Nuggets
Despite the Warriors electing to keep most of their top talent at home the team who hit the hardwood in Denver weren’t about to simply concede.
As I predicted in the preview Jordan Poole broke out of his shooting slump with the ball in his hand and rookie Moses Moody had a big night as well.
Although the game was closer than coach Michael Malone likely wanted the Nuggets still got the job done with the victory. Nikola Jokic delivered his league-leading 18th triple-double of the season featuring 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists.
Starters Monte Morris and Jeff Green each added 18 points while Austin Rivers chipped in 15 points. The Nuggets bench also performed well with Davon Reed and DeMarcus Cousins contributing 17 and 13 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Denver moved the ball well in this win that featured an incredible 39 assists on 46 made field goals. The Nuggets did much of their damage in the paint outscoring the Dubs 66 to 52 in that area of the floor.
Other keys to the win featured 24 points scored off 14 Golden State turnovers and being aggressive to get to the line which they did with 41 free throws versus 23 for the Dubs.
Denver is dealing with a tough scheduling stretch playing two back-to-back sets this week that features the Warriors on the backside of both sets.
Will Barton (ankle) and Bones Hyland (ankle) are questionable. Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), and Jamal Murry (ACL), and Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) are out indefinitely.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings have entered the history books and not in a good way. With the loss to the Knicks, the Kings cemented another losing season marking the 16th consecutive year and breaking the previous mark the Kings and Clippers were tied with.
The new play-in tournament format allows Sacramento to maintain hopes of getting into the postseason but trailing the 10th seeded Pelicans by 4.5 games makes it seem like a futile wish.
Sacramento has just 15 games remaining with only four matches featuring opponents that are not in playoff or play-in contention.
A five-game road trip could end up playing a role in where they finish the season with two games in Houston and one in Indy that could help them improve their draft lottery positioning.
Jeremy Lamb (ankle), Mo Harkless (ankle), and Richaun Holmes (personal) are questionable to play Wednesday versus the Nuggets. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.

With no inspiration to play spoiler this should be an easy victory for the Nuggets who’ll be inspired to get the job done early in order to rest their starters with the Warriors in town again on Thursday.
