Game 6 between the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns tips off on Thursday, May 11th. Through five games in this series, the home court has held with the Nuggets bouncing back from consecutive losses via a 118-102 rout of the Suns on Tuesday.
Entering this match the Nuggets can clinch a Western Conference Finals berth while the Suns will be seeking to extend the series to the limit and a Game 7 back in Denver.
ATS
The Nuggets are 49-40-1 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 20-24 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Suns are 45-43-2 against the spread this season. Also, they are 24-20-1 ATS as the home team.
Season Series
The teams split the season series with Denver winning on December 25th in overtime (128-125), and January 11th (126-97), while the Suns won on March 31st (100-93) and April 6th (119-115).
While Durant played in both games the Suns won the only starter who appeared (and just in one of the two matches) was Aaron Gordon while the Suns had their full starting lineup.
Last season the clubs played three times with Phoenix winning two of the three contests. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 102 of their 189 matches.
This is the fifth time the clubs are facing each other in the postseason with Phoenix holding the 3-1 advantage including the most recent meeting in 2021 when the Nuggets were limited without Murray or Porter Jr.
Denver Nuggets
After two consecutive losses the Nuggets returned to Ball Arena and came out punching showcasing their better selves playing three great quarters of basketball to take a 3-2 series lead.
This match was more representative of the team’s style with five players scoring in double-figures. They had one less block and attempted three fewer shots but won every other statistical category.
Nikola Jokic registered his tenth career playoff triple-double (29 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists) to surpass Wilt Chamberlain for the most by a center and his fourth of 2023 which is half of the total by all playoff participants (8).
Jamal Murray got off to a rough start shooting 1 of 6 at the half but was key to the third quarter swing repeatedly running the Jokic – Murray pick and roll and finished with 19 points (7 of 15) along with five rebounds, and six assists.
Michael Porter Jr. got off to a hot start and rode it to 19 points connecting on 5 of 8 triples while Bruce Brown scored 25 to lead the bench unit.
Both Murray and Brown brought a visible aggressiveness and swagger to the game as the Nuggets looked like themselves again.
Stats
On the positive side, Denver possesses one of the two best offenses in the league highlighted by scoring 115.8 points per game ranking 12th. Denver is shooting the best field goal percentage of 50.4% as well as the fourth-best perimeter efficiency of 37.9%.
Denver allows opponents to score 112.5 points per game which ranks eighth while limiting foes to 47.8% from the field and 34.4% from deep ranking 20th and third respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Collin Gillespie PG (OUT—leg fracture)
Phoenix Suns
Devin Booker finally proved he’s human after all shooting 8 of 19 (42.1%) from the field for 28 points. Stats most players would be thrilled by but he entered Game 5 shooting 61.7% from the field through his prior nine playoff games while averaging 37.8 points per game.
Kevin Durant had an inefficient first half shooting 5 of 16 but was 5 of 8 in the second half to finish with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Deandre Ayton was the only other Suns player to crack double-digit scoring with 14 points.
Notably, the Suns are 0-3 in the playoffs when one of KD or Booker doesn’t score 30 points, and despite the rout they both played over 40 minutes again which begs the question if fatigue is finally catching up to them with their work load being so intensive.
Stats
Phoenix averages 113.6 points per game ranking 17th while shooting 46.7% from the field and 37.4% from the perimeter ranking 23rd and seventh overall.
Defensively opponents score 111.6 points ranking sixth-best. Meanwhile, they limit foes to 46.6% from the field and 35.7% from the perimeter ranking sixth and 11th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Chris Paul PG (questionable— groin)

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
After the Suns evened up the series, suddenly pundits were jumping on the Phoenix bandwagon to win the series albeit I remained on an island sticking with my preseason Nuggets pick to win the West.
While neither team has won on the road yet there is a discernable difference between the teams… all three Nuggets wins were by double-digits (18, 10, and 16 points) and they had a shot to win in both matches in Phoenix losing by seven and four points.
Certainly, KD and Booker will be focused and will undoubtedly come out aggressive but my instinct tells me Michael Malone has figured out the keys to stop Phoenix.
Therefore, as long as the refs call the game relatively the same for both sides I’m taking the points and picking Denver to wrap up the series.
