Monday, March 14th, the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers play for the second and final occasion of this season. The 76ers won the initial meeting on November 18th with a score of 103-89.
Denver last played Saturday losing 115-127 to the Raptors while the 76ers are playing a back-to-back set with the front side versus the Magic in Orlando.
All-time the 76ers have the advantage of winning 52 of 93 matches versus the Nuggets. Last season the teams played twice with the Nuggets winning both contests.
Denver Nuggets
For the first time in well over a decade the MVP race is wide open. Sure there are a handful of players being discussed as the main candidates but it’s shifted seemingly every four to six weeks.
Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were the frontrunners to start the season. Joel Embiid has been a constant but faced competition from DeMar DeRozan who was holding the Bulls afloat during all their injuries.
But the Bulls’ inability to beat the top tier of teams never made him a serious candidate. Ja Morant burst into the conversation with his nightly highlight reel and by virtue of the Grizzlies vaulting into second in the West.
Two-time MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo re-entered the conversation based on his statistics and the movement of the Bucks up the ladder.
While reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic was largely ignored the majority of the season his statistical dominance can’t be ignored any longer. The result is the trio of Embiid, Antetokounmpo, and the Joker are topping MVP ladders but the Joker is leading most analysts lists.
Although voters won’t base the MVP award on one game, there is no doubt tonight’s match could play a factor. Particularly if Jokic or Embiid has a huge night or makes the game-winning play.
Factor in the Nuggets has lost consecutive games allowing both the Warriors and Raptors to dominate the final frame with specific issues on the glass and with turnovers. ‘
Head coach Michael Malone called his team “soft” after the loss to Toronto and his squad typically responds to shade from him.
Zeke Nnaji (ankle) and Aaron Gordon (foot) are questionable for Monday. Vlatko Cancar (foot), Jamal Murray (knee), and Michael Porter Jr. (back) are out indefinitely.
Philadelphia 76ers
Remember I cautioned about getting too giddy about the 76ers Harden era getting out to a great start? Well, Thursday offered evidence they aren’t invincible, lack depth and James Harden will be under major scrutiny once they reach the playoffs.
Typically, there wouldn’t even be a conversation about the first round but with the Nets potentially being their first-round opponent let’s just say it’s not a given they even get to the second round.
They followed up the loss to Brooklyn with a win versus Orlando but it required overtime and it felt like there was some residual effect that carried over from Thursday.
Embiid delivered a double-double of 35 points and 16 rebounds but the fact Philly trailed by 16 points in the game right after they stunk up Wells Fargo should be cause for concern!
Danny Green (finger) is questionable for Monday.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
This should be a great showdown both in terms of two teams looking to get back on track as well as for the MVP race. Both Embiid and Jokic have shown up in games that matter (the Nets game notwithstanding) and are fully cognizant of the stakes for this match.
As much as Embiid has impressed all season and carried his squad, Jokic is just so unique and I have a feeling he’ll be motivated to remind voters why he won the award last year.
