Just before the curtain is dropped on another NBA regular season, the Denver Nuggets will travel to Oklahoma City for an attempt at revenge against the Thunder.
Oklahoma City defeated Denver 106-105 on Sunday, eliminating them from playoff contention on their home court.
2016-17 will be remembered as a bittersweet season for the Nuggets, as they had a good year but fell just short of making the postseason. This will be the second of a back-to-back for them, as they take on the Mavericks in Dallas on Tuesday.
Behind the Herculean efforts of Russell Westbrook and a great finish to the season, the Thunder have locked in the 6th spot in the Western Conference.

They will also be in action on Tuesday, taking on the Timberwolves in Minnesota.
Denver Nuggets
Even with the lack of a true superstar, the Nuggets had a wonderful year offensively and put on some wonderful displays of team basketball. Things came down to the wire for them, as they competed with the Portland Trail Blazers for the final spot in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, they fell short of that goal and were eliminated from contention on Sunday against none other than the Oklahoma City Thunder. Perhaps getting some revenge may salvage something of the year in this final game of the season.

The Nuggets rank 3rd in the league in scoring, averaging 111.8 points per game. They rank 2nd in rebounding with 46.3 and 2nd in assists with 25.3 per contest.
Their defense left much to be desired, as they allowed 111.5 points per game which ranked 27th in the NBA.
Danilo Gallinari leads the Nuggets in scoring with 18.2 points along with 5.2 rebounds per game.
Nikola Jokic contributes 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists a night, and Will Chandler adds 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds. Gary Harris, Will Barton and Emmanuel Mudiay are also scoring in double-figures.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the most exciting teams to watch all year. Russell Westbrook is putting up numbers unlike anything that has been seen in my lifetime, and a team that lost a top-three NBA player in free agency has fought its way into the postseason.
OKC has already secured the 6th seed in the Western Conference, so they do not have much to play for in this one. Westbrook is scheduled to miss his first game of the season in Tuesday’s game against Minnesota, and he is likely to sit out this one as well.

The Thunder score an average of 106.7 points per game which ranks 11th in the NBA. They rank 1st in rebounding with 46.5 but 25th in assists with only 21 per contest.
On the other end, the Thunder allow 105.9 points per game which ranks them 16th in scoring defense.
It has already been well-documented, but just to recap: Russell Westbrook is averaging 31.9 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game.
That makes him the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for a season. Victor Oladipo, Enes Kanter and Steven Adams also contribute well, but who really cares?

If Russell Westbrook suits up for this game, it is likely to be a repeat of Sunday’s matchup. However, the Thunder have nothing to play for, and he is likely to sit.
