Both teams last played Sunday with the Nuggets losing 99-101 to the Thunder while the Pelicans lost 96-100 to the Heat.

*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Monday, evening, January 24th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Tuesday, January 24th.
Denver Nuggets
Every champion will tell you their team experienced luck along the way to the title. Now the Nuggets have a long way to go to be in that conversation but if Denver ends up in the Finals remember this point of the season.
Specifically, Nikola Jokic sat versus the Clippers, Pacers, and Thunder either to rest his sore wrist or hamstring. Yes, they lost to the scrappy Thunder (by just two points) on Sunday but won the other two matches.
They actually improved their position because the Grizzlies lost two games and they hold a six and seven-game lead over the Kings and Pelicans.
With the extra padding and the Pelicans struggling they can afford to keep sitting Jokic and give him extra time to heal.
Stats
Denver possesses the best offense in the league scoring 117.6 points per game on average which ranks sixth overall. Also, their efficiency is the high mark in the NBA ranking first from the field with 51.0% effectiveness and also first from the perimeter shooting 39.8%.
To be sure, defensively the Nuggets are improving. So far, they allow opponents to score 113.1 points per game which ranks 14th while limiting foes to 47.9% from the field and 34.9% from deep ranking 23rd and seventh respectively.
On the negative side, Nikola Jokic (hamstring), Michael Porter Jr. (personal), and Bones Hyland (finger sprain) are questionable for Tuesday. Peyton Watson (groin) and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.
New Orleans Pelicans
While the Nuggets have been able to win despite who is sidelined the Pelicans haven’t been as fortunate. Mind you, their situation is different with the top two players both out.
And they navigated the absences of CJ McCollum among others all while Ingram has been out. The latter has missed 28 consecutive games but in the most recent injury report has been upgraded to “doubtful” which implies his return is imminent.
Stats
Offensively, the Pelicans rank ninth for scoring averaging 116.4 points per game while shooting 48.0% from the field and 36.4% from the perimeter ranking ninth and 12th respectively.
Defensively, the Pelicans allow opponents to score 113.4 points (16th) and limit opponents to 47.3% from the field also ranking 16th whereas they rank first for opponent perimeter efficiency at 34.1%.
Ingram (toe) is doubtful while Naji Marshall (toe) is questionable for Tuesday. Zion Williamson (hamstring) and E.J. Liddell (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction:
Injuries could dictate who wins with the potential for each side to be missing two of their top three contributors. The good news for the Pels is Ingram being upgraded to doubtful means he’s close to a return even if it’s not in this match.
Meanwhile, the winning streak is over for the Nuggets but they’ve only lost consecutive games twice this season with the last time being against the Pelicans on the road – can’t see them allowing that to happen again.
