Grab your brooms as the defending champion Denver Nuggets look to sweep the Los Angeles Lakers for the second consecutive season following their 112-105 Game 3 victory on Thursday to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
Season Series
LA holds the all-time record having won 113 of the 192 meetings between the clubs however the Nuggets have owned the Lakers in recent years sweeping them this season and hold an 11-game win streak versus LA going back to the Conference Finals last year.
To that end, this is the ninth time the clubs have met in the postseason with LA possessing a 7-1 record in those series albeit Denver got the most recent series win.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Friday, April 26th Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Saturday, April 27th.
Denver Nuggets
The scary part about the Nuggets being up 3-0 and looking to close out the series is they’ve yet to play their best ball. Nikola Jokic has been consistently effective in all three games but a different teammate has offered the extra to help win in each game.
Michael Porter Jr. stepped up in Game 1, Jamal Murray got hot in the clutch in Game 2 and in Game 3 it was Aaron Gordon who was the x-factor.
If the team sticks to this trend expect Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to have a big effort in Game 4.
Nuggets Stats
Denver ranks fifth offensively (117.8) and eighth defensively (112.3) with a net differential of plus +5.5 which ranked fourth overall.
Through the third game of the playoffs, they rank seventh offensively (115.1) and sixth defensively (107.0) with a plus +8.2 net differential ranking third.
Despite their overall placement, the Nuggets weren’t as solid against the spread with a 40-43-2 record through 85 contests.
Nuggets Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Vlatko Cancar, SF (OUT indefinitely— knee)
- Reggie Jackson, PG (left last game/questionable— ankle)
Los Angeles Lakers
LA has held double-digit leads in all three contests but hasn’t been able to maintain their lead. What’s stood out is despite Anthony Davis and LeBron James having big series they seem to run out of gas in the final frame.
Credit the Nuggets defense and intensity for part of the issue but it also highlights the Lakers lacking depth and the fact their two leaders are 39 and 31.
Austin Reeves offered more in Game 3, but D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura disappeared. If the Lakers are to keep the series alive they need contributions from at least two in the supporting cast.
Lakers Stats
LA ranks 15th offensively (115.4), and 17th defensively (114.8), with a plus net differential of +0.6 ranking 19th overall.
Through the third game of the playoffs, they rank 11th offensively (107.0) and 10th defensively (115.1) with a minus -8.2 net differential ranking 14th.
The Lakers performed below the middle ground against the spread with a 41-46 record through the season.
Lakers Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Cam Reddish, SG (questionable — ankle)
- Christian Wood, PF (OUT indefinitely— knee)
- Jarred Vanderbilt, SF (OUT indefinitely —foot)
- Jalen Hood-Schifino, SG (OUT for season —back)

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
Most pundits believed this series had the potential to go the distance but Denver is on the precipice of a second consecutive playoff sweep of LA.
Entering Game 4 there are so many questions to be answered.
Will the Lakers be motivated to collect at least one win or will they emulate the actions of D’Angelo Russell (see tweet of the day below) who couldn’t be bothered to be part of the sideline huddle?
Moreover, can the Lakers build and sustain a lead for a full 48 minutes? Or, will the Nuggets once again do whatever is necessary to collect the W or put LA out of their misery early via a blowout?
I’m betting on the latter.
