Throughout the conference semi-finals, the Eastern series has led off the televised schedule but with the Eastern series going the distance they’ll close the night while the Clippers and Nuggets open the evening slate of events.
Coincidentally, the Clippers can also wrap up their series this evening since they lead the Nuggets three games to one.
Denver Nuggets
For the second consecutive series, the Denver Nuggets find themselves down 1-3 in a series. This LA Clippers team poses a much greater challenge for the Nuggets than the Utah Jazz so it feels like their demise is inevitable.
Making matters worse rookie Michael Porter Jr. caused a stir by criticizing head coach Mike Malone’s game plan stating the Nuggets are playing directly into the Clippers’ hands.
His suggestion was the Nuggets were using Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray too much and that he (and others) should be getting more touches.
While MPJ may have had his team’s best interest in mind it’s not something a player who struggles to defend should be commenting on, particularly not publicly.
In the Game 4 loss, Jokic led the way with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds plus six assists. Murray scored 18 while MPJ added 15 points and Gary Harris chipped in with 10 points.
Murray has struggled throughout the series facing Patrick Beverley and the length of both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
Will Barton remains out with a knee issue and his presence would’ve given the Nuggets a much-needed lift on the wing.
Los Angeles Clippers
Superstar Kawhi Leonard continues to feast and has been the most dominant player throughout the playoffs on both sides of the court. In Game 4, he came up one assist shy of a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists plus added four steals.
Paul George is having a better series versus the Nuggets but still looks susceptible which begs the question of how well he’ll do once the Clippers face a strong defensive squad which neither the Mavericks nor Nuggets are.
George (10) was one of six players who scored in double-digits with Montrezl Harrell (15), Lou Williams (12), Marcus Morris (11), and Ivica Zubac (11) the other four.
The Clippers are fully healthy with no players on the injured reserve list.
