Wednesday, February 16th, finds the Denver Nuggets playing the Golden State Warriors for the second of four matches between the clubs this season. Denver won the initial match on December 28th 89-86.
Denver will host the final two meetings on March 7th and 10th. Both teams last played on Monday with the Nuggets defeating the Magic 121-111 while Golden State lost 104-119 to the Clippers.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests. The Nuggets have won 98 of the 182 matches played versus the Warriors all-time.
Denver Nuggets
As I noted in prior previews there are some teams who would rather postpone the All-Star weekend given their current positive momentum. While the Nuggets might seem like one of those clubs given their four wins in five games and 9 out of 13 they need the rest.
Especially if news Jamal Murray could be returning sooner than expected. The Canadian guard would have an immediate positive impact giving Nikola Jokic an option to help carry the scoring load.
The question is how Murray’s return would impact the defense and I bring that up only because this Nuggets team is scary defensively when they lockdown.
Jokic will head to Cleveland following this match and should be joined by Bones Hyland who was snubbed for the rookie -sophomore Clorox Rising Stars Game. He’s played well enough to earn a spot but inexplicably got overlooked.
During the recent five-game stretch Jokic is averaging 25 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists while registering two triple-doubles and three double-doubles.
Zeke Nnaji (hamstring) is questionable while Monte Morris (concussion) was upgraded to probable to play Wednesday versus the Warriors. Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), and Jamal Murry (ACL) are out indefinitely while Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) is presumed out for the season.
Golden State Warriors
Like the Nuggets, the Warriors can use some rest to recharge and get ready for the stretch run. Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green will all take part in the All-Star weekend although Green will be doing it as an analyst since he’s out injured.
As for Curry and Wiggins, they’ll be opponents this weekend as Steph is on Team LeBron while Andrew is on Team Durant, and in a bit of a shock the best 3-point shooter of all-time elected not to participate in the MTN DEW 3-point contest.
Like Hyland, Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga was snubbed from the Clorox Rising Stars event and I’d bet if that decision had been made two weeks later than they were that wouldn’t be the case.
Andre Iguodala (back) is questionable to play Wednesday versus the Nuggets. Draymond Green (calf) and James Wiseman (knee) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Warriors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
- The Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games
- Golden State is 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 12 of Denver’s last 18 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 5 of Golden State’s last 7 games.
Free Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Offering evidence this Dubs team needs a break is their three losses in the last four games. They’ve looked fatigued and while Klay Thompson is starting to resemble the pre-injury Thompson his cohorts are gassed.
They also clearly need Draymond Green particularly on the defensive end but his playmaking and IQ are equally important on offense.
The Dubs are 26-5 at home but the Nuggets have the momentum based on their recent success which has me taking the points and the Nuggets. As for the victory, I’ll give the nod to Golden State but that’s more of a coin flip.
