Dallas Mavericks
Dallas became the latest victim of the Utah Jazz on Saturday, 112–107.
Luke Doncic finished with twenty-five and seven; Seth Curry had nineteen and four in his second consecutive start; Utah has now won nineteen of its last twenty-one games.

Curry has been starting in place of Dwight Powell, who ruptured his Achille’s tendon in Tuesday’s loss to the Clippers.
Powell started forty-seven games for Dallas in the previous two seasons combined but it wasn’t until this year he became a full-time starter. He will finish the season with career-high averages in minutes per game, rebounds, assists and steals. And Dallas will miss him on both ends of the floor.
Curry and Delon Wright joined Doncic’s as Dallas’ three guys to play more than thirty minutes; Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith and Kristaps Porzingis all logged between between twenty-five and thirty; Justin Jackson got twenty; and Maxi Kleber and Jalen Brunson played just less than that.
The rotation is barely big enough. Time will tell whether or not it will be good enough. As long as the Mavericks have enough to protect their king, they will be remain in the second tier out West — the same group Oklahoma City has overachieved to be a part of.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder won for the fifth time in a row on Saturday, 113–104 in Minnesota, sweeping its back-to-back and putting more distance between it and eighth place in the Western Conference, currently occupied by the Memphis Grizzlies.
Chris Paul had twenty-five and ten; Dennis Schroder led the team with twenty-six points; and Darius Bazley had fifteen starting in place of Danilo Gallinari, who missed the game with a sore thumb.
The assumption early on this season was that Oklahoma City was only competitive because both Paul and Gallinari were healthy but that they would both eventually miss plenty of games.
So far, the latter part of the assumption hasn’t happened; Saturday was Gallinari’s eight DNP and Paul hasn’t missed a game. But for the younger guys on OKC’s roster to step up and keep things moving in the right direction has to be exciting.
It wasn’t just Gallinari who missed the game; Terrence Ferguson, who typically starts, has been out with a personal issue and Steven Adams returned from injury to play against the Wolves but finished scoreless, with just two assists and a rebound in twenty-three minutes.
Luguentz Dort, a rookie who started in Ferguson’s place, Mike Muscala, the seventh-year forward out of Bucknell, Hamidou Diallo, the guard out of Kentucky, along with Bazely, all scored double-digits.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a modest eleven points and seven rebounds but he played a team-high thirty-four minutes. If the Thunder’s supporting cast can let Gilgeous-Alexander direct most of his efforts to stopping Doncic on the defensive end, Oklahoma City will be in good position to keep its winning streak alive.

Free Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction: the Thunder wins
It would be reassuring to know Gallinari will be available but even with his status unclear, the Thunder has the blueprint to victory with a couple capable defenders (led by Gilgeous-Alexander) to throw at Doncic and a deep and balanced scoring unit on the other.
