The Mavericks know they’re not playing for the postseason at this point, but they’re also a team that refuses to tank in the interest of lottery positioning. Last year when Mark Cuban admitted they mailed it in was the one exception to that rule—they just haven’t been good enough to compete and have made moves with the future in mind this year as a result despite refusing to officially call it a season.

Don’t expect a big showing from Nowitzki in this contest. After all, this is the guy who labors up and down the court from one elbow to the next looking not so much like the gazelle he used to resemble.
But this is also the same legendary 7-footer who just two games ago went for 21 points, five rebounds and two blocks (while shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-8 from deep) against the Warriors.
If Nowitzki is saving himself for the big moments, this would be one of his final opportunities to go Full Dirk before the season comes to an end.
I just wouldn’t count it, as that showing against the Dubs was easily his best showing of the year.

Miami Heat
Although we don’t think of Wade and Nowitzki as being true rivals, their ties will always be strong. That’s not lost on Wade, either.
The last time these two faced off earlier this season, Wade requested the now-famous jersey swap with Dirk after the game. Nowtizki, an old-school dude in body, age and mind, said he felt naked on the court wearing just his under-tank. But he obliged in the spirit of Wade’s self-promoted Farewell Tour.
There will be no jersey swap this time (presumably) with that out of the way. This will be Wade’s one last chance to one-Nowitzki.
And he knows it’s Nowitzki’s last chance to do the same.
