Saturday, January 19 finds the Dallas Mavericks facing the Indiana Pacers as they meet for the first time in the 2018-19 regular season. In their last game on Wednesday the Mavericks lost to the Spurs while the Pacers played Thursday in a loss to the 76ers.
Last season, Dallas swept the two-game series. The Mavericks hold the all-time record having bested the Pacers in 42 of their 73 matches.

Only four Mavericks hit double-digit scoring in the loss to the Spurs with rookie Luka Doncic leading the way.
Dallas is missing J.J. Barea who was lost for the season with an Achilles tear and perhaps that’s why the Mavericks are now saying they are backing off trading Dennis Smith Jr.
Or perhaps it’s just the semantics of having his name dangled publicly and they are trying to generate some buzz for the sophomore.
Doncic also added eight rebounds and eight assists as he continues to be the predominant favorite to win Rookie of the Year. He’s also ranked second in Western frontcourt player All-Star voting after the third returns.
Wesley Matthews (13), Dorian Finney-Smith (12) and Harrison Barnes (11) were the trio who joined Doncic in double-digit scoring in the loss.
After dominating at home with a 13-2 record Dallas has regressed losing four of their last seven home games.
Smith Jr. (back tightness) has missed the last four games and remains questionable for play on Saturday.
Indiana Pacers
Thaddeus Young has been perhaps the most consistent two-way player for the Pacers this year. In the loss to the 76ers Young led the way offensively scoring 27 points while adding six rebounds.
Only Victor Oladipo (15) and Tyreke Evans (13) joined Young scoring in double digits versus Philly.
The main issue for the Pacers is they’ve dominated sub .500 teams but are struggling against the upper tier. Case in point, Indiana is 6-12 versus the seeded teams and 3-6 versus the four Eastern squads they are aligned with to capture a home court seed.
Specifically, the Pacers are 1-2 versus the 76ers, 1-1 against both the Bucks and Celtics while they lost both games against the Raptors.
Of the Pacers six games remaining: one versus Raptors/76ers) and two versus Bucks/Celtics they need to win at least two of the series in order to gain respect as a legitimate Eastern contender.
