It’s been a mixed week for the Mavericks who easily beat the scrappy Thunder, then fell to the struggling Suns by almost 30 points (133-104) and their star injured his ankle in practice.
In the loss, the Mavericks gave up big first and third quarters to the opponent, with the latter particularly harmful as they allowed Phoenix to score 48 points to their 22.

Luka Doncic led the way with 21 points and six rebounds but played just 25 minutes and was frustrated with the refs picking up a technical foul early.
Now the news he won’t play in the next two games at a minimum puts extra pressure on the Mavs.
The only other players to register double-figures were Jalen Brunson (15) and JJ Barea (15) off the bench.
With the game well out of hand early though the reserves all played a ton of minutes meaning the starters should be well rested albeit missing their star.
Luka Doncic leads the Mavericks in four stat categories including points (28.8), assists (8.7), rebounds (9.5) and field goal percent (46.4%). Delon Wright leads for steals (1.2) while Kristaps Porzingis is tops for blocks (2.0).
Doncic is out with an ankle sprain sustained in practice with his return date unknown as he’s set to get an MRI.
Tim Hardaway Jr is dealing with lower back tightness making him questionable for the next match. Dwight Power tore his Achilles tendon and will be lost for the season.
Houston Rockets
James Harden continues to struggle and Russell Westbrook is on a hot streak. Thus has been the situation for several games now and the last match versus Portland was no different.
Westbrook produced 39 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Harden scored 18 points but shot 5 of 18 from the field. Ben McLemore and Austin Rivers each pitched in with 17 points.
The problem is even when Westbrook has a big game unless Harden has a big night the Rockets are losing.
Harden had missed the two prior games with a thigh injury sustained versus Minnesota, but his shooting woes began well before that game. His perimeter stroke hasn’t been on the mark since mid-month.
Harden leads the team in scoring (35.7) and Westbrook is tops for assists (7.4) and steals (1.6). Clint Capela leads the other three key stat categories including rebounding (13.8), field goal percent (62.9) and blocks (1.8).
Gerald Green will be out until early May after surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. Nene (groin) remains out with an uncertain return date.
