Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals tips off on Thursday, May 26th, featuring the fourth seed Dallas Mavericks versus the third seed Golden State Warriors. The Warriors will try to close out the series for the second time while the Mavs are hopeful to extend the series.
The Mavericks won the 2021-22 season series 3-1 and hold the all-time advantage having won 89 times of the club’s 169 regular-season meetings. This is the second time the clubs are playing in the postseason with Golden State winning 4-2 in the first round of 2007.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks flipped the script in Game 4 doing things they hadn’t through the initial three matches and it resulted in a victory although they’ll need to replicate that four times in a row to beat the Dubs and also make history.
Like he’s done the entire postseason Luka Doncic led the way and came close to registering a triple-double with 30 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and two blocks.
The difference in this effort however was his teammates were hitting their shots, particularly from deep. The Mavs made 20 of their 43 attempted 3-point shots (46.7%)
Dorian Finney-Smith offered his best offensive game of the series scoring 23 points, six rebounds, and hitting four 3-pointers.
After shooting 0-7 from deep in Game 3, Reggie Bullock delivered connecting on six of his 10 long ball attempts. Similarly, Maxi Kleber rediscovered his touch replacing an 0-5 effort with 2 of 3 from behind the arc.
Tim Hardaway Jr. (foot) remains out with no definitive return date.
Golden State Warriors
Despite knowing they could gain a major rest advantage over the Eastern teams, the Warriors didn’t seem to take Game 4 as seriously as they should’ve. And in fairness, they almost still pulled off an amazing comeback utilizing their reserves to cut the 29-point deficit to eight.
With the Mavericks up early, Steve Kerr elected to utilize the reserve unit more which could prove to be an advantage in Game 5 since Stephen Curry (33) and Andrew Wiggins (31) were the only starters to log over 30 minutes.
In contrast, most of the Mavs starters played close to 40 minutes. Those five to eight additional minutes could prove to be the one little thing that provides the edge in Game 5.
Tuesday, Curry led the Dubs scoring effort (20) and was one of seven Warriors to score in double-figures. Rookies Jonathan Kuminga (17) and Moses Moody (10) got the most run they’ve experienced in the series which will pay dividends down the road.
Otto Porter Jr. (foot) is questionable for Thursday. Andre Iguodala (neck) and Gary Payton II (elbow) remain out with no definitive return date. James Wiseman (knee) is out for the season.

Free Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Through the first three games, the Warriors were shooting 46.9 percent versus the Mavericks 40 percent from the field which changed Tuesday with Dallas shooting 50% (41-82).
It was also the first time Dallas offered a more balanced attack featuring more paint touches. Golden State was plus 56 scoring in the paint in the series and while they won Game 4 (44-36) it was much closer than the prior games.
With nothing to lose, Dallas can play freely while the Dubs know they can’t mess around two games in a row so will be focused to finalize the series on their home floor and hope not to sustain any major injuries in the process.
