Tuesday, January 25th, finds the Dallas Mavericks playing the Golden State Warriors for the second time this season and the first of two consecutive games this week. The Mavericks won the initial meeting 99-82 on January 5th and will host the final game between the clubs on March 3rd.
Both clubs last played on Sunday with the Mavericks defeating the Grizzlies 104-91 while the Warriors won a 94-92 battle versus the Jazz.
Dallas Mavericks
With the Grizzlies in town, the Mavs got a bit of a break given how shorthanded Memphis is. Still, it was another solid defensive outing with only Ja Morant causing Dallas any trouble.
Although Luka Doncic is nursing a stiff neck he put on a show flirting with a triple-double but coming up one assist short with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
His superstar partner Kristaps Porzingis is starting to develop true chemistry with Doncic and also had a solid outing with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and six blocks.
Jalen Brunson chipped in 13 points as the only other Maverick to score in double-digits. Instead, the Mavericks continued to play tough-nosed defense. And once again it wasn’t of the typical nature as they lost the rebounding battle 50 to 42 and got roasted on the offensive glass 21 to nine.
They also gave up 19 fast-break points (to nine) and were bested in the paint 60 to 50. A recent issue for Dallas who’ve played some of the better teams has been turnovers and they struggled again with 18 miscues leading to 20 points.
Despite those issues, the Mavs utilized their strengths winning the defensive glass 33 to 29 and got significantly more free throws (31 to 19) which helped them maintain their lead and ultimately capture the victory.
Sterling Brown (foot) and Frank Ntilikina (non-COVID illness) are both questionable for Tuesday.
Golden State Warriors
With Stephen Curry struggling to score (5 of 20) versus the Jazz the others had to step up and Jordan Poole had one of his better games since Klay Thompson returned. Perhaps it wasn’t a coincidence that he was back in the starting rotation that led to his 20 points and critical shots in clutch time.
All five Warriors starters scored in double-figures with Curry and Otto Porter each scoring 13 points. Andrew Wiggins (14), Damion Lee (12), and Kevon Looney (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Neither team shot well from the perimeter but the Jazz capitalized on a friendly whistle getting to the line for more than double (23 to 10) the free throws. While the Dubs lost the rebound battle (51 to 40) they made up for it by forcing 12 Jazz turnovers converting them for 20 points.
Klay Thompson (knee) is questionable for Tuesday (but reports make it sound like they’ll exercise caution here) while Draymond Green (calf) and James Wiseman (knee) remain out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games.
- The Mavericks are 11-2 SU in their last 13 games.
- The Warriors are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a West opponent
- The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Dallas’ last 8 games.
Free Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
These clubs are on two different tangents in 2022 as the Mavericks have won 11 of 13 since New Year’s Eve while the Warriors are 7-6 since the calendar switched and half of their losses against lower-tier squads.
The Warriors seem to find another gear against the elite teams despite their recent struggles beating the Jazz twice plus the Heat, Cavs, and pummeling the Bulls. And while the Dubs will be looking to even the score on their earlier loss to Dallas this isn’t a great matchup for them, especially without Draymond Green.
