Wednesday, April 6th the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons play for the second and final meeting this season. Dallas won the initial meeting 116-86 on February 8th.
Both teams have been off since Sunday with the Mavericks beating the Bucks 118-112 while the Pistons lost beat the Pacers 121-117.
Last season, the teams played three times with the 76ers taking two of the three contests. The 76ers hold the all-time record having bested the Pistons in 225 of their 382 matches
Dallas Mavericks
Building momentum heading into the postseason is the desire of every playoff team which is what the Mavericks are doing having registered a 14-5 record through the last 19 games.
Not many analysts and pundits picked Dallas in the preseason to be among the top four seeds in the Western Conference.

Certainly, they were expected to be a playoff squad but with a new head coach (Jason Kidd) and not many offseason additions, things figured to take time to mesh.
Nor were the Mavericks earmarked to be among the top ten (seventh) defensive squads. It took me months to figure out what Dallas was doing and expecting them to cool off.
Instead, they improved and it became clear – this iteration of the Mavericks play with energy, commitment, and focus. That includes superstar Luka Doncic who famously yelled to an opponent’s bench “I play defense now!”
Another positive for the Mavs was how quickly Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans integrated following their arrival at the trade deadline. Neither is considered a lockdown defender but both serve a vital role and allow Kidd more depth and offensive variety including a small ball lineup.
To that end, the team that a few seasons ago was putting up outlandish scoring was simply mediocre early in the season. But as per John Schuhmann, they are back to being offensive beasts scoring 119.2 points per 100 possessions through the last 28 games.
Trey Burke (quarantine) and Sterling Brown (quarantine) were upgraded to probable, Maxi Kleber (ankle) was downgraded to out Wednesday. Theo Pinson (finger) and Tim Hardaway Jr.(foot) are out indefinitely.
Detroit Pistons
This offseason the Pistons will have copious decisions to make about the direction of the franchise. Their top draft pick Cade Cunningham got off to a slow start after suffering a severe ankle sprain in preseason.
But he sure didn’t waste time making up for it and in any other season would likely be a shoo-in for Rookie of the Year.
Instead, his counterparts Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley who both play key roles on teams currently seeded fifth (Raptors) and seventh (Cavaliers) are likely to finish one/two on the ballot with Cunningham a close third.
The main question for Troy Weaver is whether the franchise wants to take a small step next season likely vying for a play-in seed or trade Jerami Grant in the final year of his contract to add more youthful depth and/or picks and continue with the current “Piston Process’.
Cunningham (tailbone) was upgraded to probable, while Cory Joseph (back), Kelly Olynyk (rest), Rodney McGruder (hip), and Marvin Bagley III (hip) are all out Wednesday. Hamidou Diallo (ankle) is questionable and Frank Jackson (back) is out indefinitely.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Prediction:
The Mavs have three games remaining versus the Pistons, Blazers, and Spurs which should cement a home court seed needing only to hold off the Nuggets who trail them by two games.
Dallas is aiming at the Warriors and the third seed, but like Dallas, the Dubs have an easy closing schedule and are up a game.
To accomplish either feat they’ll need to avoid falling for trap games like the loss to the Wizards and old friend Kristaps Porzingis fittingly played on April Fool’s Day.
