Win a couple games in a row and even one of the worsts teams in the league can find themselves a favorite. It also helps playing against Cleveland but that’s the exact spot the Knicks find themsevles in Thursday night.
Before the all-star break it would have been unheard of for the Knicks to actually be approaching a a 3-game win streak. This is a team that at one point had dropped 18 in a row. Still after reshuffling their lineup at the trade deadline, New York might actually finish the regular season strong.

Even the Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t played as horrible lately as they did earlier in the season. The Cavs are 4-6 in their last 10 including a 3-point win over these Knicks right before the ASG. Don’t these two squads know how to tank or what?
Cleveland Cavaliers
One of Cleveland’s biggest factors in their “turnaround” has just been getting healthy. Well, specifically Kevin Love has returned to the lineup and has actually resembled his former self. Love has three straight double-doubles including a 32 point, 12 rebound outing vs. Memphis on Saturday.
Another player who has been a pleasant surprise with his increased opportunities has been Cedi Osman. The SF had 27 points vs. Portland Monday and has scored in double figures in each of the four games since returning from an ankle injury.
It’s not just players returning from the bench that are making Cleveland competitive. More specifically, Collin Sexton has broken through the rookie wall to be a solid, consistent producer. Jordan Clarkson has also been great off the bench so the Cavs actually have some tools to win Thursday’s matchup.

So Cleveland has looked better lately with a 3-2 record over their last 5, but is that due more to the quality of opponent? Those wins came against these Knicks, Phoenix, and Memphis – not exactly postseason bound squads.
The Cavs did play well albeit in an OT loss to Brooklyn. Another question facing the Cavs is how they’ll play on the road as the last five have been at Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland is 5-24 going away this year.
New York Knicks
It’s not like the Knicks have a huge advantage being at Madison Square Garden as they are 5-24 on their own court. That being said New York has played three in a row at MSG and won’t have any travel burdens effecting them Thursday.
New York’s 3-1 record the last four is impressive because they’ve actually beaten some quality opponents. Orlando came into town winners of 8 of 10 before falling 108-103 Tuesday. Prior to that, the Knicks rolled San Antonio by the score of 130-118 on Sunday.

While Cleveland has had some diverse production over the last two weeks, so have the Knicks. It’s actually been the New York bench contingent that has led their charge. Take a look at the production off the pine in the last game that included Allonzo Trier (18 points), Emmanuel Mudiay (19), and Mitchell Robinson (13).
Suddenly the Knicks have some depth to go along with trade deadline acquistions like Dennis Smith, Jr. and Deandre Jordan. Everybody thought New York was tanking for Zion Williamson, but maybe his issues with shoe blowouts have scared off the team and they’re going for wins now?
