Tuesday, January 24th the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks play the third of four scheduled meetings this season. The teams have split the series so far with Cleveland winning on October 30th (121-108) while the Knicks took the December 4th match (92-81).

The Cavaliers last played Saturday defeating the Bucks 114-102 while the Knicks lost 116-125 to the Raptors on Sunday.

All time the Knicks have the advantage of winning 117 of the 221 matches versus the Cavaliers. Last season, the teams played three times with the Cavaliers sweeping those three contests.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Although the Cavaliers remain one of the cemented playoff seeds sitting in fifth they’ve failed to capitalize on injuries to the teams ahead of them.

Specifically, the Nets went 2-4 without Kevin Durant, and the Bucks were 2-3 without Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Granted the Cavaliers were missing Donovan Mitchell in their last three matches (1-2) but they watched the 76ers vault ahead of those teams even though they were missing their big man Joel Embiid in some games.

Stats

Offensively, Cleveland scores 111.7 points per game ranking 26th while shooting 48.4% from the field and 36.3% on the perimeter ranking seventh and 12th respectively.

At this instant, Cleveland tops the league for opponent scoring limiting foes to an average of 107.3 points per game. Also, Cavs opponents shoot 46.6% from the field and 36.9% from deep ranking seventh and 25th.

On the negative side, Donovan Mitchell (groin) remains questionable for Tuesday. Dylan Windler (ankle) is out indefinitely.

New York Knicks

While the presence of Quintin Grimes improved the Knicks overall starting lineup’s defense it’s clear Mitchell Robinson was equally important to the mix.

Robinson got injured versus Washington playing only 9:04 and hasn’t played in the two matches since – – all three of those matches plus the game prior were losses by the Knicks.

Stats

As can be seen, New York excels at limiting opponents with the third-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.2% and the fifth-lowest perimeter percentage of 34.5%.

Also, they complete the big three stat line ranking 11th overall for opponent scoring with 112.3 points per game).

So far, offensively, the Knicks score 114.3 points per game ranking 14th. Also, New York shoots 45.7% from the field ranking 23rd, and 34.2% from the perimeter ranking 25th.

Immanuel Quickley (knee) is questionable for Tuesday. Mitchell Robinson (thumb) is out.
