Friday, March 11th, finds the Cleveland Cavaliers facing the Miami Heat for the third and final time this season. Cleveland is up 2-0 having won 111-85 on December 1st and 105-94 on December 13th. Notably, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo were out in both matches.
The Cavaliers battled to net the 127-124 victory versus the Pacers on Tuesday while the Heat lost 90-111 to the shorthanded Suns.
Last season the teams played three times with the Heat sweeping the regular-season series. The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 73 of their 121 matches.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Without Jarrett Allen, the wins aren’t coming as easily for the Cavaliers who had to rally in clutch time to come back versus the Pacers and erase a 10 point deficit.
All-Star Darius Garland is proving his mettle as he posted a career-best 41 points via a double-double that included 13 assists plus five rebounds, and two steals.
Rookie Evan Mobley is stepping up without his frontcourt twin tower also producing a double-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds as well as three assists, five steals, and a block.
Lauri Markkanen is playing arguably the best since joining the Cavs offered 21 points and five points while Isaac Okoro and Dean Wade scored 11 and 10 points respectively as the other double-digit contributors.
Something to note is the Pacers’ reserves pounded the Cavs bench outscoring them 56 to 22.
Caris LeVert (foot) and Jarrett Allen (finger) are out indefinitely. Collin Sexton (ACL) is lost for the season.
Miami Heat
With Devin Booker back in the lineup for the Suns, the two teams leading their respective conferences played a tight match through the first half and then Phoenix lowered the boom in the third and pulled away never to be caught.
At the end of January/early February, the Heat lost three games in a row and have only lost three games since. They also played 10 games on the road in that stretch of 18 games dealing with core absences.
Part of this loss can be chalked up to the Suns’ professional approach to every game but it also felt like Erik Spoelstra didn’t dig into his defensive tool kit like he typically does.
Could it be he anticipates an NBA Finals meeting versus Phoenix and didn’t want to tip his hand? Coach Spo took a different viewpoint citing the 23 point loss they dealt Phoenix earlier this season and said they (the Suns) played harder with that inspiration. Again, I’m not buying it.
Miami didn’t have Jimmy Butler in the lineup and Caleb Martin hyperextended his leg in the second quarter so weren’t at full depth either.
Duncan Robinson was the higher scorer with 22 points while Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro each chipped in 17 points as the only other double-figure contributors.
Butler (illness) and Caleb Martin (knee) are questionable for Friday. Markieff Morris (conditioning) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Cavaliers are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Miami is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
- Cleveland is 1-4 SU in their last 5 games on the road.
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Miami’s last 6 games.
Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
.Having lost both prior games versus the Cavs, expect the Heat to have revenge on their minds. Furthermore, it’s not likely these teams will meet in the first round but possible.
If Miami were to fall to third and Cleveland stayed sixth for example or if the Cavs had a sudden losing streak that dropped them into the play-in. Still, the Heat typically rebound from poor performances so expect this one to go the way of Miami.
