Sunday, November 6th finds the Cleveland Cavaliers facing the Los Angeles Lakers in their first meeting of two this season. The Cavaliers will host the second match on December 6th.
Both teams last played Friday with Cleveland winning 112-88 versus the Pistons while the Lakers got routed 116-130 by the Jazz.
This is the front side of a back-to-back set for both clubs with the Cavs staying in LA to face the Clippers on Monday while the Lakers will head to Utah and face the Jazz again.
All time the Lakers are ahead winning 68 of 119 contests versus the Cavaliers. Last season the Lakers won both matches against Cleveland.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers continue to pile up victories sitting in second behind the Bucks and second overall in the association.
Their most recent win was earned without the services of their All-Star backcourt Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell who were both out nursing injuries sustained in the overtime victory over the Celtics.
Garland left the opening game of the season when he took an accidental finger to the eye and had only just returned for a single game when he got injured again so he’s not having the best luck staying healthy.
Mitchell has meshed perfectly with his new squad posting averages of 31.1 points, 7.1 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals whiles shooting 43.8 percent from the perimeter on 9.1 attempts.
Defensively, the Cavaliers allow 104.4 points per game to rank fourth while their opponents shoot 44.1 percent from the field (tied 4th) and 34.4 percent from the perimeter (9th).
On the offensive side of the ball, the Cavs are lighting up the perimeter shooting 40.6 percent ranking second overall. Cleveland is shooting 47.7% from the field which ranks seventh and is scoring 116.5 points per game to rank sixth.
Garland (knee) and Mitchell (ankle) are questionable while Dylan Windler (ankle) is out Sunday. Ricky Rubio (knee) won’t return to the court until the New Year.
Los Angeles Lakers
You have to wonder what runs through LeBron James’ mind when he looks at his former hometown team doing so well to start the season.
He must be drooling to see a potential cornerstone talent in Mobley, a defensive rim protector in Allen, and a backcourt with two All-Stars plus his buddy Kevin Love.
Then factor in the Cavaliers’ perimeter prowess and you know if the King wasn’t so entrenched in finishing out his career in LA he’d be longing for a return to the Land.
LA scores 108.5 points per game ranking 25th. LA is struggling with their shots hitting only 43.8 percent from the field which ranks 28th but is abysmal from deep posting the worst shooting percentage of 28.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Defensively, the Lakers fare better although they’ve experienced some slippage in this area too. They allow opponents to score 113.8 points per game which ranks 15th. Opponents are shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from the perimeter ranking seventh and 10th respectively.
Anthony Davis (back) and LeBron James (foot) and Wenyen Gabriel (illness) are all probable for Sunday. Cole Swider (foot) is out until late November while Thomas Bryant and Dennis Schroder are out indefinitely following thumb surgeries.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Cavaliers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- The Lakers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss.
- The Cavaliers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Under is 4-0 in the Lakers’ last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.
- The Cavaliers are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles.
Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
Cleveland would be outright favorites if Mitchell and Garland were playing but the uncertainty of their participation is why the spread is lower than expected.
Still, this LA squad finds new ways to move down the ladder each week so they would need Davis and James to be at their best plus everyone else to perform above their season’s averages to beat this Cavs squad regardless of who suits up.
