Saturday, March 12th, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls play for the third time this season. Cleveland won 115-92 in the squads first meeting while the Bulls took the January 19th match 117-104.
As Central Division rivals they’ll play once more with the Cavaliers hosting on March 26th.
The Cavaliers are playing the second game of a back-to-back set having lost 105-117 to the Heat on Friday while the Bulls have been off since Wednesday when they defeated the Pistons 114-108.
Last season the clubs played three times with Cleveland taking two of the three contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record with 130 wins in 224 matches versus the Cavaliers.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers remain seeded sixth with that coveted position that sends them straight to the postseason but it’s not a given they’ll hang on to it.
They’ve lost seven of their last 10 games and with Jarrett Allen out nursing a fractured finger the Cavs are finding it difficult to play to their typical prowess.
The schedule hasn’t been very helpful with matches versus the top of the East (76ers twice, Heat), hot clubs (Timberwolves), and squads fighting to keep their play-in seed or move up (Hornets, Wolves, Hawks).
Nor does their itinerary improve. Specifically, they’ll face the elite East with two matches against the Bulls and 76ers plus will close the season facing the Bucks.
Another five contests feature current play-in seeds (Clippers, Lakers, Hawks, Nets, and Raptors) and strong Western clubs (Nuggets and Mavericks).
Even the lottery teams aren’t easy wins with the Pistons and Magic on tap at a time when both are playing much better.
Caris LeVert (foot) and Jarrett Allen (finger) are out indefinitely. Collin Sexton (ACL) is lost for the season.
Chicago Bulls
With the injuries, the Bulls have managed to retain a home court seed but they aren’t playing with the same dominance they were in the first half. Moreover, it’s hard to buy stock on this team based on their performances versus the elite.
Case in point, the Bulls are 1-14 against home court seeds which highlight issues they’ve experienced all season. And now on top of it, the red hot Celtics are threatening to usurp them as their win on Friday has them tied for the fourth seed.
They have five more meetings with that elite group plus another game against the Celtics.
Nikola Vucevic (hamstring) and Ayo Dosunmu (thigh) are probable, Zach LaVine (knee) is questionable while Alex Caruso (wrist) was upgraded to questionable for Saturday. Lonzo Ball (knee) is out indefinitely while Patrick Williams (thumb) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The Cavaliers are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 matches
- The over/under is 5-5 in the teams’ last 10 head to head matches
- Chicago is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games.
- Cleveland is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Chicago’s last 7 games
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Cleveland’s last 6 games.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Analysis:
Both teams need this victory as they try to fend off teams right on their heels. The Bulls have the rest advantage but also might be missing Zach LaVine on top of the core players currently out.
The length of the Cavs will give Chicago issues but similarly, the Bulls’ mid-range scoring and guards/wings will be the main issue for Cleveland.
Cleveland doesn’t look the same without Allen but the defense has been an issue for the past 10 games with the Cavs ranking 26th.
Ultimately, those extra days off should come in handy giving Chicago rested legs to work with but they’ll need to be cognizant of the glass and paint.
