Friday, April 8th, 2022, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets meet for the fourth and final time this season. Brooklyn leads the series 2-1 with victories on November 17th (109-99) and 22nd (117-112) while the Cavaliers won the January 17th match 114-107.
The Cavaliers last played on Tuesday in an embarrassing 115-120 loss to the Magic while the Nets overcame a 21-point deficit to defeat the Knicks 110-98 on Wednesday.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Cavaliers coming out on top in two of the three contests. The Cavaliers hold the all-time record having bested the Net in 105 of their 187 matches
Cleveland Cavaliers
Finally some good news for the Cavaliers who upgraded rookie Evan Mobley to probable for this match. The talented rook has missed the past five games after suffering a sprained ankle against Orlando and watched his squad go 1-4 in that period.
Darius Garland has done his best to keep the Cavaliers in games but missing Jarrett Allen as well has put undue pressure on the squad who rely so heavily on their frontcourt and defensive prowess.
It has to be so disheartening for the Cavaliers who held a home court seed for much of the season but like the Chicago Bulls have struggled since the All-Star break to keep up their early success.
The injuries only served to exacerbate the situation. With Brooklyn already up two games to one in their prior three matches, this is a must-win situation for Cleveland who wants to retain home court in the play-in after losing so much ground already.
Mobley (ankle) is probable while Dean Wade (knee) and Jarrett Allen (finger) are out indefinitely. Collin Sexton (knee) is out for the season.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets got an important victory against cross-town rivals the Knicks which marked the first time Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving had played at Madison Square Gardens together since becoming Nets.
Last season, injuries prevented the pair from the experience and the vaccine mandate precluded Irving from playing the first match at MSG. Things looked bleak early with Brooklyn allowing the Knicks to jump out to a 67-50 halftime lead.
They rallied in the second half holding the Knicks to 15 and 16 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively. Kevin Durant notched a triple-double of 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists while Kyrie Irving offered 24 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
They rose to the occasion and hold their fate in their hands because they’d already won the tiebreaker versus the Hawks and a win versus Cleveland would propel them into the seventh seed which would give them the home court position in the seven-eight play-in game.
Seth Curry (ankle) is probable for Friday. Goran Dragic (quarantine) and Ben Simmons (back/conditioning) are out indefinitely. Joe Harris (ankle) is done for the season.

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Although both teams will be dialed in to capture the victory it feels like the Cavaliers’ season could be riding on this game.
Win and hold off the Nets from stealing the home court for the play-in game or lose and drop to eighth with the potential for the Hawks to also pass them and knock them down to the ninth seed since they own the tiebreaker against the Cavs.
For as much fun as the Cinderella Cavaliers were at the season start, they’ve been hit by so much adversity at the worst possible time and it feels like luck simply isn’t on their side.
