Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland is 4–2 since the All-Star Break and most recently knocked off Orlando, which had been hot and is in the thick of a playoff race.

Six Cavaliers scored in double-digits and Kevin Love had a double-double, leading the team in rebounds with 14. Love has hit double-figures in his last six games after just four points in his first game back.

Love is owed a big contract through 2023, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if he’s going to produce now that he’s healthy again. It’s next season that the Cavs have all sorts of money coming off the books.

After next season, 2020, Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, Brandon Knight, Jordan Clarkson, John Henson, and Matthew Dellavedova come off the books. All together, it’s about $85 million and the Cavaliers will be in play for free agents.

So if they can land another top pick this season, continue to develop Collin Sexton, and then get another high pick in what will be another bad season next year, Cleveland will be situated to rise again.

Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday with a resounding win over Dallas. DeMarre Carroll led the way with 22 points in a near 40-point blowout of the Mavs.

Joe Harris broke Luke Doncic ankles on a wing blow-by for a pull-up jumper. Harris finished with 11 and nine Nets played at least 20 minutes.

Spencer Dinwiddie hit double-figures for the third time in the three games since returning from injury. He and Caris LeVert make up a bench backcourt better than just about any in the league. Throw in Shabazz Napier and the Nets have something of an excess of guards.

The Nets are still holding on to that 6-seed in the East, behind Milwaukee, Toronto, Indiana, Philly, and Boston. The Pistons are coming up, though. Detroit is hot and is at .500 itself.

If the Pacers finish third in the East and Brooklyn sixth, it will make for an interesting first-round matchup that Brooklyn could most definitely win.
