Sunday, November 6th the Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors play the front side of a back-to-back set that features a home and home matchup with Chicago hosting Monday. The final contest will be hosted by Toronto on February 28th.
Both teams last played on Friday with the Bulls losing a tough 119-123 battle to the Celtics and the Raptors experiencing loss in more ways than their one-point defeat in Dallas (110-111).
In history, the Bulls own the advantage of winning 54 of the clubs’ 99 meetings. Last season the teams played four times with the Bulls winning three of four matches.
Chicago Bulls
DeMar DeRozan tried to will his Bulls to a victory versus the Celtics behind an impressive 46-point scoring performance in which he got to the line 22 times (made 20) and added five assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Nikola Vucevic offered a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds while Zach LaVine chipped in 16 but they couldn’t stop the Celtics down the stretch.
DeRozan is the Bulls’ lucky charm when it comes to facing his former squad — prior to his addition, Toronto owned a 12-game win streak against Chicago but has lost six of seven since then.
The Bulls average 112.2 points per game ranking 19th. Chicago shoot 45.6 percent from the field (22nd) and are tied with the Raptors in ninth shooting 37.9 percent from the perimeter.
Defensively, the Bulls allow opponents to score an average of 110.2 points per game (10th). Chicago opponents shoot 47.1 percent from the field (tied 21st) and 39.3 percent from the perimeter (27th).
Derrick Jones Jr. (thumb) is probable while Andre Drummond (shoulder) and Coby White (quad) are out Sunday. Lonzo Ball (knee) remains out indefinitely.
Toronto Raptors
The Raptors clawed back to almost steal the win in Dallas but lost Pascal Siakam when he slide on a wet spot and left the game with a groin strain. It’s tough to determine recovery time but previous groin injuries tend to extend recovery time and Siakam was out last year for a groin injury.
Entering Friday, Siakam belonged to the special NBA quartet averaging 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists per game (25.6P/9.6R/7.9A). The rest of the trio are the one-name guys: Luka, Giannis, and LeBron!
OG Anunoby threw his hat in the ring to win Defensive Player of the Year and has been backing up his claims on the court. OG averages a league-best 3.1 steals per game (28 total).
Toronto ranks 16th (113.4 points per game) in scoring, tied for ninth for perimeter efficiency (37.9%), and 21st in field goal percentage 46.2%. All areas which should improve as they begin to face more middling and lower-tier opponents.
That’s also true of the defense where they currently rank fourth for opponent points scored (106.3) while allowing teams to shoot 46.6 percent from the field (18th) and 36.2 percent from the perimeter (19th).
Fred VanVleet (back) and Khem Birch are questionable for Sunday while Siakam (groin) is doubtful.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Bulls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- The Raptors are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Under is 7-2 in Bulls’ last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- Over is 4-1 in Raptors’ last 5 overall.
Free Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
Toronto is likely to be missing their top two players (Siakam/VanVleet) which will put added pressure on OG Anunoby and Scottie Barnes to do more.
Barnes was already shouldering a larger role with FVV out and while he collected his first-ever triple-double in Dallas he didn’t play well for the first three quarters and also got banged up (knee).
Home and home sets typically result in splits but much will depend on whether VanVleet and/or LaVine play.
The teams rank one/two on points scored off turnovers although the Raptors have the fewest turnovers per game. Chicago struggles to score in the paint (one of the areas the Raps excel at defending) and is in the bottom tier at defending the perimeter.
If fully healthy I’d lean Raptors but again, that DeRozan lucky charm is ever-present. I’d rather wait for the final health update and to be fair I’ve waffled back and forth at least 10 times but elected to take the points and Bulls.
