While the Bulls are spiraling of late they finally got some positive news — sophomore Patrick Williams who was expected to miss the season is ramping up his activity and is expected to return shortly.
Williams will play with the Bulls G-League Affiliate the Windy City Bulls and is expected to rejoin the varsity group potentially as early as Monday versus the Raptors and if not then, likely during their upcoming five-game road trip.
Chicago’s slide has been directly related to their porous defense and while they got Alex Caruso back either their opponents have figured out the schemes or the toll of carrying the team while Caruso and Lonzo Ball were out, simply wore them out.
I’m not suggesting a sophomore would completely change the defensive dynamic but by the same token, it sure wouldn’t hurt either based on the Bulls losing seven of their last nine contests.
Zach LaVine (knee) is probable for Friday. Lonzo Ball (knee) is out indefinitely while Williams (thumb) ramps up his rehab efforts.
Phoenix Suns
With the big win margin, the Suns hold over both the Grizzlies and Warriors one might expect head coach Monty Williams to start resting players or wonder what they have to keep them motivated.
While resting players here and there makes sense, especially after what happened to Stephen Curry on Wednesday, the other side of that equation is putting the team into a position where they lose their edge.
No team wants to end up in a similar situation as the 2007 Mavericks who held the best record, rested their starters the last week of the season, and were ousted in the first round of the playoffs.
Fortunately, there is the inspiration for the team to set a new franchise record for seasonal wins.
Jae Crowder (groin) is questionable while Cameron Johnson (quad) was downgraded to out on Friday. Chris Paul (thumb), Dario Saric (knee), and Frank Kaminsky (knee) are out indefinitely.

With six of their next seven games on the road, the Bulls’ concerns are warranted as they are a sub .500 road team (16-18). They also haven’t fared well versus teams seeded sixth or higher (7-18 ) with five of their seven wins versus that group occurring before December 6th.
Having said all that I suspect the Bulls will play desperate but Phoenix has lost only eight times on their home court so the question is more about the Suns covering the spread.
