The NBA Play-In Tournament continues with the seventh-seeded Miami Heat hosting the 10th-seeded Chicago Bulls in the final Eastern Conference one-game elimination match.
At stake is the eighth seed and a first-round series versus the Milwaukee Bucks.
ATS
At this time, the Bulls are 42-39-2 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 21-20-1 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the Heat are 30-50-3 against the spread this season. Also, they are 14-26-2 ATS as the home team.
Season Series
Chicago swept the season series with victories on October 19th (116-108), December 20th (113-103), and March 18th (113-99).
Last season the clubs played four times with the Heat sweeping all four contests. Chicago owns the slim one-game edge of 63 wins out of the 125 all-time meetings.
Chicago Bulls
Back in the city where he spent nine seasons DeMar DeRozan got off to a slow start and his Bulls fell behind by 19 points. But in the second half Chicago slowly whittled away at the deficit eventually taking the lead at 5:07 of the final frame.
Zach LaVine led the charge scoring 30 of his 39 points in the second half while DeRozan was the primary ball handler and offered 23 points. DeMar got the revenge of eliminating the team who traded him but the true MVP of the victory was DeMar’s nine-year-old daughter Diar.
She shrieked each time the Raptors attempted a free throw and while none of the Raptors suggested it bothered them the fact they shot 50 percent from the stripe missing 18 of their 36 attempts suggests otherwise.

Season Stats
Chicago scores 113.1 points per game ranking 22nd while they shoot 49% from the field and 36.1% from the perimeter ranking fourth and 16th respectively.
Defensively, they allow 111.8 points per game ranking seventh. So far, their opponents shoot 46.8% from the field and 35.7% from the perimeter ranking eighth and 13th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Lonzo Ball, PG (OUT for the season— left knee surgery)
- Justin Lewis, SF (OUT—right knee surgery; ACL reconstruction)
Miami Heat
After winning a title with the Raptors, Kyle Lowry was considered a great get for the Heat but his tenure hasn’t exactly gone to plan. However, in a match where the Hawks seemed to channel the Heat identity Lowry stepped up leading the team in scoring with 33 points.
Although he entered as a reserve with Gabe Vincent exiting late in the match with an undisclosed injury it’s possible Erik Spoelstra will reinsert him into the starting rotation (or perhaps shift to Caleb Martin to go bigger).
The advantage of starting Lowry would be his playmaking to get everyone easier looks. Specifically, his ability to run pick and roll with Bam Adebayo who needs to be more involved offensively as he took just 12 shots on Tuesday.
More concerning than the offense was how small the Heat are compared to most teams and the absense of their typical gritty mentality. That was punctuated by the categories Atlanta dominated:
- Rebounding: 63 to 39
- Offensive rebounds: 22 to 6
- Second Chance points: 26 to 6
- Points in the Paint: 64 to 46
Stats
Offensively, the Heat scores 109.5 points per game ranking 30th while shooting 46% from the field and 34.4% from the perimeter ranking 26th and 27th respectively.
Defensively, the Heat allows opponents to score 109.8 points per game ranking second overall. Miami opponents shoot 48.2% from the field and 36.7% from the perimeter with both efficiency categories ranking 22nd.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Gabe Vincent (questionable—undisclosed)
- Nikola Jovic (OUT— back)

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
I might be misted by Heat Culture and recent memories of Jimmy Butler donning an invisible cape to do the unthinkable. But watching the team on the court Tuesday there was a palpable difference from what we’re used to.
None of the typical characteristics were on display and it has me questioning if they’ll be as driven to win this game for the right to face who I’ve predicted will represent the East (the Bucks).
What switched my thinking is Lowry and Butler are close friends with DeRozan so pride will kick in and this will end up being a defensive battle. Factor in the Bulls’ secret weapon (Diar DeRozan) won’t be making the trip to Miami.
