Sunday, December 08 serves up the second meeting between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat with the latter having won the first contest 116-108 on November 22.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Miami Heat taking two of the three matches. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Heat in 59 of their 114 matches
The Bulls lost a two-point heartbreaker Friday versus the Warriors as they sought their third consecutive win.
In the loss, Zach LaVine led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists. The trio of Lauri Markkanen (20), rookie Coby White (14) and seldom utilized Denzel Valentine (11) were the other double-figure scorers.
It was one of the few times this season both LaVine and Markkanen scored in concert and is vital to the Bulls’ success moving forward.
LaVine is the team leader in scoring (22.5), Tomas Satoransky tops the ladder for assists (5.3). Wendell Carter Jr. tops the rebounding (10.0), field goal percent (56.4%) and blocks (0.9) while Kris Dunn leads the steals category (2.0).
Thaddeus Young missed the last game for personal reasons, however, he is expected to play Sunday. Chandler Hutchison (shoulder sprain) missed the last four and is out again.
Otto Porter missed the last 14 games and is out indefinitely with a left foot sprain. Christiano Felicio (wrist) is expected to be out until January.
Miami is one of the three remaining teams who haven’t lost on their home court where they are 9-0. In their last match, the Heat kept the home fires burning with a 112-103 victory over the Washington Wizards.
In the win, five Heat players reached double digits including Jimmy Butler who recorded the high score along with a triple-double of 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Bam Adebayo was equally impressive with his own double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Rookies Tyler Herro (22) and Kendrick Nunn (14) continued to produce while veteran Kelly Olynyk added 10 points.
On the season, Nunn is the team leader in scoring (15.2), Butler tops the ladder for assists (6.8) and steals (2.3) while Adebayo tops the rebounding (10.4), field goal percent (57.1) and blocks (1.2) team leaderboard.
A slew of Heat players is potentially out Sunday including Adebayo who has a groin contusion and Justise Winslow who missed the last game with a lower back strain.
Goran Dragic sat the last three games with a right groin strain and won’t play versus the Bulls.
Udonis Haslem is dealing with an illness and KZ Okpala who is out with an Achilles strain won’t play Sunday and neither has a definitive return date.
Dion Waiters is available having served his team mandated suspension but coach Eric Spoelstra has yet to utilize his services since his return.
