Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets are running out of time in their quest for the Eastern Conference postseason. Charlotte has just 6 games left in the season and has a 3 game deficit to make up on Miami for the 8 seed.
Unfortunately for Charlotte, they must also leap frog the Magic who are currently just 0.5 GB from the Heat. Is it an improbable run to the playoffs? Perhaps, but the Hornets are definitely in a must-win situation.
What makes the Hornets such lofty underdogs on Monday is that a) they’re up against a very good Jazz team but also b) despite having their season on the line, Charlotte has dropped two in a row and are just 5-5 over their last 10.

Also despite being somewhat in contention for a postseason berth this late in the year, Charlotte has been atrocious on the road. The Hornets are just 11-26 going away this year. The team also has seemed to wave the white flag over their last two, losing by 14 to the Lakers Friday and by 47 in Golden State on Sunday.
Now Charlotte must go to Salt Lake City where the Jazz are 26-12 on the year and do so playing in a back-to-back. This is a team that scored a 115-114 win in Toronto 8 days ago as +11 underdogs so they aren’t a guaranteed pushover.

The back-to-back isn’t as bad either considering the Hornets were dominated by nearly 50 points Sunday. Kemba Walker played just 24 minutes, Marvin Williams 20, Jeremy Lamb 20, for example.
Utah Jazz
The Jazz have a lot to play for on Monday as well considering they are just 2GB from the Trail Blazers for the 4th seed in the West. Conquering that spot would mean home court advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs. Portland is favored in Minnesota tonight so Utah needs a win to keep pace.
Wins haven’t been a problem for Utah lately as they’ve won four in a row and 9 of the last 10. Not that Charlotte is a bad team, but the Jazz have also been winning big when they’re heavy favorites – dominating Chicago by 31 and the Suns by 32 over the last week plus.
The Jazz should also be extremely fresh coming into Monday’s contest. They’ve played three straight games at home and have also had the last two nights off. Utah last played on Friday when they squeaked out a 128-124 win over the Wizards but as -13 favorites.

Rudy Gobert should be in line for a big game Monday vs. the Charlotte front court. Gobert grabbed 17 boards Friday vs. the Wizards and has posted 20/10 double-doubles in 3 of the last 4.
Donovan Mitchell will also counter any scoring that Kemba Walker provides for the Hornets. Mitchell 35/5/5 vs. the Wizards and has three 30+ games in his last six.
