(32-39) Charlotte Hornets vs. Toronto Raptors (31-43)
The Hornets are giving it their all in an attempt to make the postseason but schedule makers aren’t doing them any favors. Charlotte pulled off a tough victory over the Celtics on Saturday, but their reward is a trip to the Great North to face the Raptors in the back-to-back.
Charlotte needs Sunday’s win very bad however. The Hornets sit 2.5 GB from the Heat for the 8 seed and would still have to jump Orlando to make it to the playoffs.
Charlotte has rattled off two wins in a row and also had a close 4 point loss to Philadelphia in a recent 3 game home stand that just wrapped up. Being in the B2B isn’t ideal, either are the visits to Golden State and Utah coming up over the next week.
The Hornets used a 35-19 fourth quarter to get the 124-117 win over Boston. Even better for Charlotte is they didn’t have to fully burn out their roster in the process as Kemba Walker had the most starter minutes but with just 34.
Walker will definitely be counted on for a big night if Charlotte is going to extend their winning streak to three games. Walker has 36 and 31 points the last two games but doesn’t get a whole lot of consistent production from his teammates.
Miles Bridges did have a nice 20 point outing vs. Boston and Jeremy Lamb had a 26 point outing 4 nights ago vs. Philadelphia. Overall however, as Walker goes so do the Hornets but he had 25 in his last B2B on March 9th.
Toronto is fading in the race for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, falling 3 games back from Milwaukee for that honor.
A 5-5 record over their past 10 games definitely hasn’t helped Toronto’s chances. One real blemish during that stretch was a 25 point loss at Cleveland although Toronto was on a B2B.
Being at home definitely gives Toronto an edge on Sunday as the Raptors are 29-8 at Scotiabank Arena this season. The fact that Charlotte is on 0 days rest and playing their first road game in a week also tips the scales in the Raptors favor.
One thing you have to watch with the Raptors in the situation they are in (prepping for the postseason) is who is going to be taking the court. Toronto would be wise to use caution with Kyle Lowry who has missed 4 of the last 5 games while battling an ankle injury.
Kawhi Leonard could also be used sparingly Sunday and the rest of the week as Toronto has games with Chicago, New York, and then Chicago again. Does Leonard rest vs. the Hornets knowing he has essentially three practice games upcoming?
NBA Betting Trends:
- Hornets are 2-5 ATS their last 7 road games
- Hornets are 2-7 ATS their last 9 overall
- Raptors are 3-7 ATS their last 10 home games
- Hornets are 14-6 ATS their last 20 in Toronto
Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
Oddsmakers are having a hard time coming up with a line for this contest as it had yet to be released as of late Saturday night. That could either mean value on Toronto or an inflated line and the Raptors playing with a skeleton squad. There are 3 cake walk games coming up for Toronto so they’ll use all their resources to get the win vs. Charlotte and make a run at that #1 seed.
