The Magic opened up as two-point favorites over the Hornets, but since the line came out, we’ve seen a 180-degree shift with Charlotte now being the ones favored by two points.
The Hornets put together a valiant effort against Giannis Antetokounmpo on Wednesday and stormed back in the second half to make it a game. They ended up dropping the contest by one point.
Against Orlando, Charlotte will need more production out of anyone not named Kemba Walker. The star point guard went for 41 points in the Hornets’ opening game for the season, but Malik Monk was the only presence (off the bench) who made a regular impact on the offensive side of the floor.
The Hornets will need to look at Nicolas Batum, in particular, to snag some of the offensive responsibilities as far as both scoring and creating goes. Against Milwaukee, the French swingman managed to grab seven rebounds but shot just 2-of-8 from the field (1-of-4 from the three-point line) and only collected three assists in the process.
Getting Batum involved early will help everyone else get involved against a weak Magic defense.
The Magic will likely have a weak defense all season, but they do have potential to improve, largely because of Mo Bamba. The Texas product has an insane wing span, can shoot from deep (apparently he learned how post-college) and, as indicated before, can block shots with the best of them.
But integrating him into the system isn’t going to happen over night. It’s especially not going to happen instantly so long as the front court remains as crowded as it currently is.
Against Charlotte, the Magic should be content with letting Walker go off. If he needs another 41 points to keep the Hornets in this one, Orlando should be a-okay with that.
The Magic need to make their priority stopping the players around Walker. We saw Milwaukee find success with that approach in Game 1 of the season, so there’s little reason to change the blueprint going into Game 2—even if that blueprint is borrowed from Milwaukee.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
The Hornets’ one-point loss looked a lot closer than it actually was. Don’t forget, Charlotte gave up 25 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists to Antetokounmpo.
The good news, if you’re a Hornets fan, is that the Magic don’t have anyone near the caliber of The Greek Freak. Very few teams across the league do.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Charlotte ATS
The Hornets should win this one easily.
