Charlotte Hornets
A three game losing streak hasn’t helped the Hornets playoff chances. Charlotte has fallen to 3GB from the Heat for the 8 seed in the Eastern Conference and would still have to leapfrog the Magic to get into that spot.
With just 5 games left, essentially the season is over for the Hornets and it will end without a postseason berth. Teams don’t always respond well being officially eliminated after being so close to the playoffs…even though Charlotte isn’t mathematically out of the equation yet.
Even though New Orleans has nothing to play for either, Wednesday’s game doesn’t look good for Charlotte. The Hornets will be playing their fourth straight road contest and are just 11-27 going away this year anyways.

The Hornets have a 14 point, 47 point, and 9 point loss on their current road swing. Their offense hasn’t looked great over the last two as Charlotte has scored just 90 and 102 points in consecutive games.
In Monday’s game vs. Utah, Kemba Walker scored 47 points, which was great. What wasn’t so good for Charlotte was that the rest of the starters combined for 6 points total. Jeremy Lamb did have 23 points off the bench but that’s putting a big load on Walker.

The Charlotte defense hasn’t done them any favors over the last two either. The Hornets gave up 123 points to the Lakers and 137 to the Warriors. New Orleans has actually played decent on offense recently scoring 120+ in two of three.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans would be a relatively solid play on Wednesday if not for the fact that they’ve dropped 4 of their last 5. New Orleans has played four home games in a row however which should give them an advantage over a Hornets squad on the road for the last four.
Then again, New Orleans has dropped a 23 point loss to Houston, a 10 point defeat to Atlanta, and most recently a 102-130 loss to the Lakers on Sunday. The Pelicans did score a 121-118 victory over Sacramento last Thursday so they aren’t in full tank mode.

Oddsmakers have waited to release a line on Wednesday’s game as the Pelicans could be without Julius Randle and Anthony Davis in this one, leaving a large hole in the front court. Jahlil Okafor played well with extended playing time earlier in the season, but overall the Pelicans will be a bit thin vs. Charlotte.
Christian Wood has played well to wind down the season with 23, 25, and 15 points in the last three games. If New Orleans can get a playmaking night from Elfrid Payton they don’t look like as bad of a pick.
