Charlotte Hornets Strengths:
Expiring Contracts:
One piece of good news is the numerous expiring contracts on the roster. Each of Bismack Biyombo, Marvin Williams, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are in their final contract years. That trio specifically may allow Hornets General Manager Mitch Kupchak some trade flexibility at the deadline. Biyombo and Kidd-Gilchrist could bolster a competing team’s defense while Williams is still a reliable perimeter shooter and 2-way talent.

Opportunity for youngsters:
As with all tanking teams, the young players will be afforded the chance to demonstrate their talent and given an opportunity to succeed. This will be the case for Malik Monk, Miles Bridges, Dwayne Bacon and each of the rookies added at the 2019 draft.
Coach James Borrego:
Shackled by a limited roster in season one Hornets Head Coach James Borrego made some inspiring decisions. The trio of vets outlined above, in particular, each benefitted via their role change. If the young players on this season’s team are meant to become part of the future core leave it to Borrego to put them in a position to succeed.
The hope is management will also get him a star(s) to work with and he’ll retain his job long enough for fans to witness what precisely he could do with a roster containing above average talent.
Charlotte Hornets Weaknesses:
Replacing the production and leadership of Walker:
Kemba Walker wasn’t just the franchise face of Charlotte he also was the main voice off the hardwood. The combination of those two factors was one of the key reasons Celtics GM Danny Ainge was anxious to nab the All-Star to replace Kyrie Irving who left the Boston locker room in a caustic state.
Given these facts, the Hornets have a true dilemma ahead of them as they seek to replace Walker’s production as well as his leadership. The addition of Terry Rozier should offset some of Walker’s scoring but his skills at rallying the troops are yet to be seen.

Playmakers and ball handlers:
Expect the Hornets to be mired in the offensive rating basement all season. More than losing an elite level scorer they’ve also lost the primary playmaker. Nicolas Batum is adept at creating his own shot and dishing dimes but isn’t ideally suited to be saddled with that responsibility.
Likewise, new starting point guard Terry Rozier showed proficiency running a reserve unit but his abilities leading a starting rotation are unproven. Granted, he may step up to the task at hand, but given his penchant for calling his own number more often than not he could be in for a long season as opponents simply double team him to force turnovers, rushed ill-advised heaves or shot clock violations.
Charlotte Hornets Betting Prediction: 25-57
Oddsmakers predict an over/under of 23.0 wins. Last season the bottom three teams failed to capture 20 wins as they attempted to win the tank and claim the Zion Williamson sweepstakes. Flash forward to a revised lottery which witnessed none of that trio capturing the top or second draft picks.
That factor alone makes tanking less desirable for future teams seeking to claim the top draft pick. The Hornets defense could keep them in games but without any single proven primary scorer, the offense will equally lose them games.
