Monday, April 17th, the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers continue their first-round playoff series. As can be seen, Philly got the advantage of extra rest taking the initial match in a 121-101 blowout victory.
ATS
At this time the Nets are 43-40 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 23-19 ATS as the away team. Additionally, the 76ers are 49-34 against the spread this season. Also, they are 26-16 ATS as the home team
Season Series
Philly swept the regular season series winning on November 22nd (115-106), January 25th (137-133), February 11th (101-98), and April 9th (134-105).
Last season, the squads played four times with the Nets taking three of the four contests. The 76ers hold the advantage all-time having won 123 times of the club’s 211 meetings.
Brooklyn Nets
Mikal Bridges grew up just outside Philly, playing his high school and college ball (Villanova) nearby so this series offers him a hometown return of sorts.
Bridges got off to a hot start scoring 23 of his 30 points in the first half until Doc Rivers made defensive adjustments at the half.
Nets head coach Jacques Vaughan felt Embiid was given too much leeway specifically being allowed to go unpenalized for three seconds in the key and traveling.
#Nets coach Jacque Vaughn – who'd lamented Joel Embiid not getting called for travels last night – doubled down when asked what Brooklyn can do differently in tomorrow's Game 2. “He only got one pivot foot, I’ll just say that." #NBA #76ers

Stats
Brooklyn allows 112.5 points ranking 10th and possesses the fourth-best opponent field goal percentage of 46.3% but ranks 21st on perimeter defense as foes shoot 36.7% from deep.
Brooklyn scores 113.4 points per game ranking 20th while shooting 48.7% from the field and 37.8% from the perimeter ranking seventh and fifth overall.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Ben Simmons PG (OUT indefinitely—back, nerve impingement)
Philadelphia 76ers
Beyond Vaughn’s concerns about Embiid going unpenalized, he may have to rethink his strategy to double the Sixers’ big man. Doing that enabled James Harden more room to operate and play make.
Harden recorded a double-double of 23 points including seven 3-pointers and dished 13 assists while Embiid scored 26 points with 11 coming at the charity stripe given the extra attention paid to him.
Two big differences for Philly was their bench stepped up and the team dropped 21 triples (a playoff franchise-best).
Stats
So far this season, the 76ers score an average of 115.2 points per game ranking 14th. Philly shoots 48.7% from the field and 38.7% from the perimeter, ranking sixth and first respectively.
What’s more, defense is where the 76ers make their mark allowing the third-fewest opponent points per game with 110.9 and the fifth-best perimeter defense at 34.8% while ranking 14th for opponent field goal percentage allowing opponents to shoot 47.3%.

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
Diving into the numbers despite losing by 20 points the Nets can draw upon some positives. For example, Brooklyn shot 55.7% from the field and 44.8% from the perimeter.
Areas they need to clean up are giving up offensive rebounds (14 to 5), second-chance scoring (21 to 3), and hanging on to the ball as Brooklyn’s 20 turnovers equated to 31 points for the 76ers.
Returning to the first point, most surprising was the volume of shots, or rather the differential as Philly attempted 19 extra shots.
Nic Claxton may not have the size to deal with Embiid, but Vaughn should consider defending him in single coverage and look to block Harden’s passing lanes instead. The Nets have copious quality 3-point snipers so they should also take more shots from the perimeter.
All that to say, Philly is likely going to roll through this series, with the Nets maybe extending it to a gentleman’s sweep by taking a game at home. Still, I’ll take the 10 points with Brooklyn making this game more competitive albeit in a loss.
