Thursday, March 10th, the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers play for the final regular-season game. Brooklyn leads the series 2-1 with wins on October 22nd (114-109) and December 16th (114-105) while Philly won 110-102 on December 30th.
The Nets last played Tuesday defeating the Hornets 132-121 while the 76ers played on Monday beating the Bulls 121-106.
Last season, the squads played three times with the 76ers taking two of the three contests. The 76ers hold the advantage all-time having won 118 times of the club’s 205 meetings.
Brooklyn Nets
After not sitting on the bench at Wells Fargo for any matches this season Ben Simmons will be in the building on Thursday and although he won’t play don’t expect the fans to hold back in their taunts of him.
The Nets are saying Simmons has suffered a setback in his preparation to return to the court with his back acting upi but there are many (raises hand) who believe he’ll return sooner than the team has suggested.
If he is healthy and just avoiding playing it’s an odd choice because the Nets could face the 76ers in the playoffs where things would be even more intense and dramatic than if he just played Thursday and got it over with.
Ben Simmons will not play in Thursday’s Nets-76ers – but is expected to make the return trip to Philadelphia and join team on bench inside Wells Fargo Center, sources say. More: pic.twitter.com/3orGREnaX8

Kevin Durant looks like he never missed a game since his return and Kyrie Irving put on a show in Charlotte dropping 50 on a ridiculously efficient 15 of 19 reminding everyone of why he’s in that rarified company that exists at the top of the league.
That he’s not playing every game is a shame for Nets and NBA fans. After this match, he’ll only be able to participate in four more games unless New York changes their COVID protocols.
Heaven forbid the Nets finish eighth and the Raptors seventh because he also can’t play in Canada. Brooklyn had slipped to ninth but by virtue of the win Monday moved back to eighth.
LaMarcus Aldridge (hip) was downgraded to out Thursday. Simmons (conditioning) is out and Joe Harris (ankle) is lost for the season.
Philadelphia 76ers
Throw out all the previous statistics between these clubs – – they haven’t just swapped talent, this game is personal for both sides. Irving alluded to it in his post-game how he wished James Harden had talked to him about the situation more.
That’s sort of rich given his personal choices didn’t consider the ‘team’ and it’s unlikely he spoke to Harden at length about how his decision would negatively impact the Nets. Durant took the high road understanding how Harden is desirous of winning a title.
Doc Rivers also downplayed the situation simply stating rivalries are good for the league and not to read too much into this match since his new superstar duo have only played five games together.
The players have been more overt about their feelings with the typical quiet Danny Green commenting, Joel Embiid’s post-trade tweet spoke volumes while George Niang said the quiet part out loud ‘this obviously means a little more for guys on our side, for sure.’
The validity of Simmons’ mental or physical health is irrelevant. By sitting on the Nets bench it reinforces the real issue – he wanted out and was willing to do whatever it took for that to happen.
Green (finger) is doubtful and Paul Millsap (personal) is probable.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:
Simmons spent four seasons in Philly so he knows the fan base and will be expecting shade but I’m not sure he understands the intensity level it will reach. He also might not care.
But aside from Embiid, the majority of the 76ers players feel strongly about how Simmons acted (Green and Niang don’t speak otherwise).
Ironically, both teams NEED this win but for very different reasons. The Nets need this win more statistically but the 76ers (and Harden) need this win psychologically so they can lay down the angst and move forward.
