Saturday, February 12th, finds the Brooklyn Nets facing the Miami Heat for the second of four meetings this season. Brooklyn will host the third meeting on March 3rd and the teams will play the final game in Miami on March 26th.
Both teams last played on Thursday with the Nets losing 112-113 to the Wizards while the Heat defeated the Pelicans 112-97.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat taking two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 76 wins in 130 matches versus the Nets.
Brooklyn Nets
While the Nets spent the past several weeks doing everything in their power to deny Harden wanted out of Brooklyn push came to shove and they finally acquiesced to dealing him to Philly.
Though there are opposing opinions on how well each team did it’s hard not to tap the Nets as the winner of this trade.
In addition to Ben Simmons, they get another shooter in Seth Curry a much-needed big man in Andre Drummond who’ll be able to rim protect and grab rebounds which is something they desperately need.
But to also get two first-round draft picks pushed this deal way over the top. Consider at the start of the season when Daryl Morey began trying to trade Simmons he was asking for an All-Star talent and multiple first-round picks to come to Philly.
Factor in this scenario might be the absolute best situation for Simmons out of any team he could land with (Warriors being a close second) given the shooting, talent, and a big market which he coveted.
Plus KD and Kyrie Irving will cast a big enough shadow that he won’t have to be thrust into the media.
The biggest question is how quickly Simmons plays because he’s been fined over $20 million and will inevitably land in arbitration trying to get that money back.
If he plays immediately it will throw some doubt toward his mental health claims although given the 76ers fan base you can understand why he would be trepidatious to play in Philly and suffer the ire of the crowd.
Curry and Drummond are listed as questionable while Nic Claxton (hamstring) and Simmons (newly acquired) were downgraded to out Saturday. Kevin Durant (knee), LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle), and Joe Harris (ankle) are all out indefinitely.
Miami Heat
Of the 10 teams currently seeded in the East most were active at the deadline. The Heat made a single move to send KZ Okpala (who was since waived) for a 2026 second-round pick.
But don’t get caught up in what seemed like a minor throw-away deal. Also included in the trade was some housekeeping regarding a future pick the Heat owes the Thunder that had protections on it for 2023, 24, 25, and became unprotected in 2026.
Because teams aren’t allowed to offer first-round picks in simultaneous years and with those protections on the pick it meant there was no certainty when the pick would convey and that was hamstringing the Heat from offering a first-round pick until 2028 in current deals.
To fix the issue the Thunder agreed to readjust the pick to convey only in 2025 or 2026 freeing up the Heat to offer any first-round picks they own in 2022, 2023, and from 2027 forward. That’s a BIG deal.
Tyler Herro (knee), PJ Tucker (knee), and Caleb Martin (Achilles) are questionable for Saturday. Markieff Morris (conditioning) and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
This could be the Nets debut of Drummond and Curry but Simmons won’t be on the court as Brooklyn attempts to end their 10-game losing streak.
The Heat is also shorthanded but has the core available and even with the new recruits and Kyrie Irving on hand, they won’t have enough to deal with the top team in the East.
That said, the Nets should be playing desperate to end this streak and I’m guessing will keep the total closer than 10 points so I’m taking the points but the Heat for the win.
