(0-1) Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat (1-1)
The Hornets and Heat battle in the division for the first time in 2018/2019. Miami got its first win of the season on Thursday after dropping its opener.
Charlotte will be on the second night of a back-to-back in this game, which means it has its first chance to get a win on Friday night against the Magic.
Charlotte didn’t get much from the starting unit outside of Kemba Walker in Wednesday night’s opening night loss to the Bucks.
Walker did a whole lot, though. He dropped forty-one points, mostly on Eric Bledsoe, but couldn’t convert on the final possession in the one-point home loss to Milwaukee.
Nic Batum and Marvin Williams managed a paltry five points apiece in nearly sixty combined minutes. Cody Zeller got just three rebounds in twenty-one minutes as the starting center.
The good news for Charlotte is that the second unit looks intriguing. Tony Parker led the offense and piled up eight points and seven assists in twenty minutes. Malik Monk did most of the scoring with eighteen points off the bench. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added ten and six in twenty minutes.
The Hornets are in Orlando on Friday night before heading south about 200 miles to Miami.
The Heat doesn’t have to play this game on a back-to-back because it was able to handle Washington on Thursday, spoiling the Wizards’ home opener (and season opener) with a one-point win.
The Heat entered the fourth quarter down four and trailed by one with six seconds to go when Dwyane Wade threw up a long fadeaway jumper over his right shoulder. The shot missed badly but Kelly Olynyk split two Wizards’ defenders to grab the offensive rebound and put in the game-winner.
So Miami will get Friday off and open up its season at AmericanAirlines Arena in this game on Saturday. It’s early, but Hassan Whiteside looks active and motivated early. He’s put up double-figure rebounds in each of Miami’s first two games.
Both Wayne Ellington and James Johnson have missed the first two games of the season but are working their way back slowly and are questionable for this one. Derrick Jones Jr., Bam Adeboyo and Rodney McGruder are picking up most of the leftover minutes in their absences.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction: Low scoring…the Heat!
Same as last season with this Heat team. I like it a lot but you can’t depend on it to cover big numbers. I don’t think I can take them to cover anything more than five in this one.
